To an employee or to any as a mark of a milestone achievement, then I will readily gift the Rolex.

I would. Rolex is a brand that is respected across the spectrum and not just by all us watch crazies.
My wife loves hers and couldn't care less about watches. However, she knows its value. |

Absolutely not.
Find something they may appreciate more. |

No, gift people something they like and if you don't know what they like, gift them the money to buy what they like.

probably not
My dad could not care less about watches. He likes his $200 Fossil watch just as much as the Rose Gold Daytona my mom bought for him. It's hilarious. He only wears it so she's happy. |

Seriously No. one does not know Rolex. Giving them a watch is the right way to waste your money.

I wouldn't give a Rolex or anything else to someone who would not appreciate it and understand it. My kids will inherit my watches and I daresay they will sell them.
I like those Panerai. I have a couple PAM's and they get some wrist time. |

Why? So they could sell it, or lose it, or leave it in a drawer and never touch it?

What a better way to put someone into watches than a Rolex? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, and since they are notoriously a mark of conspicuous consumption the gift would say more about you and how you want to be viewed.
