I would much rather have white golf or platinum than steel, I like the extra weight and the lustre. And I suspect most people would feel the same way, so in that sense, PM is more desirable. However, it’s less popular because many can’t, and even more won’t, spend the money on PM. I only have one PM watch (white Gold Daytona) and that’s because the price point made sense on the Oysterflex, at just over twice the price of steel. On a white gold bracelet, at three times the price, I don’t see the value. So white Gold is more desirable from my perspective, and yet I have one white Gold vs ten steel. Everyone secretly wants one and has always wanted one. As distasteful and obnoxious as it is. I genuinely believe this to be the case. SS is much more up to the task however so it is the rational choice.

PM has always been more desirable. But not accessible. Hence, demand for SS.

If you can afford a Rolex, then it's probably true to say you could afford a solid gold one... I've had several gold watches on gold bracelets over the years, but wouldn't wear one now. I think they look a little ostentatious and catch the eye a little too quickly - but there's no question that the weight and lustre of gold is very alluring.

When everyone disagrees with you, it’s probably because you are wrong my friend. Total denial to think that SS is more prestigious than PM. You’ve used the wrong word. Prestigious is not the word you are looking for.

Today, SS is more desirable and more prestigious than PM. PM means you have resources. SS means you have resources and resourcefulness.
