I think far too many people get hung up on the notion of what is proper/what qualifies as "dressy" per se. If you look at the rhodium YM (which is exactly the watch I'm currently after, myself), I don't see how you couldn't see pairing that with a suit.
Does a Lange/PP/AP/etc type of classic watch fill the nitch of "dress watch" better? Absolutely. I do not think that excludes more sporty watches from also being paired with a suit, however. Even the watches Rolex doesn't market as "sports" watches are still fairly sporty compared to the classic dress watch look- OP, DJ, and even DD to a certain extent strike me as having sporty qualities themselves. I think some talk "dress" watch as if everyone on here is wearing a suit to a royal banquet or $50k/plate fundraising dinner...I'd assume that level of event is the exception and not the rule. I'd wear the YM with a suit and feel completely content with the level of sophistication others were perceiving me to have; and wouldn't feel any more in an OP. |
