Don't many companies change out the mainsprings on manual wind watches in a typical overhaul as a matter of course as they simply wear out and are stressed from regular full winds.

Yes. It was probable changed when I had it tuned up sometime back. I may be over winding my watches because I've had two that have gone kaput!

Here is a picture of the broken mainspring. The watch is back on my wrist and in rotation again!

Larry, hope you get her back soon
No they are still outsourced made by Schwab-Feller AG,at one time before the introduction of the in-house made hairsprings they used ones from ETA Nivarox. And the KIF escapement shock system was not Rolex made, they now use there own in-house paraflex system, but in the world no better than the KIF only the fact in-house made. Plus movement synthetic ruby bearings and cap jewel bearings,crystals,spring-bars,all screws movement and bracelet screws outsourced, and a firm called Aiguilles makes all the watch hands for all models.

Mainspring should ALWAYS be replaced with new during a movement overhaul. No exceptions. An old tired one could break rendering a fresh movement service basically null and void. Movement would need another teardown. Watchmaker would be doing double work.

A better description instead of “terminated” is that the contract renewal had new terms for future continuation of the account.

Several were onerous for watchmakers who had a large inventory of parts and tools. Like retroactive surrender of inventory/tools at depreciated rates if watchmaker ever terminated contract.

But the net effect was most watchmakers refused to sign it. They walked away with their inventory and tools and can still service many models for years. They just won’t get parts for the newer models anymore.
