Oyster Bracelet Screws

Another forum member has posted about replacement screws being shorter than the factory finished screws. Seemingly, the original screw heads are finished/polished whilst in situ within the bracelet at factory.

Can anyone confirm just how lower seated replacement screws will appear on those that have been changed out please?

I ask because I had my local RSC remove a link as the AD who sold me the watch was telling me his eyesight wasn’t great so I decided to get Rolex to do it themselves.

It was done within minutes, and nothing was mentioned about a replacement screw being used, but it just dawned on me after having read the other thread.

Looks about right for a replacement screw on your pic.

Hi Bas, I asked the lady at RSC to ensure she used the same screw, and she didn’t advise me otherwise. Are you saying that you can see this is a replacement screw?

Can you see that this is not the original?

Yes, replacement screws are always slightly shorter.

The regular screws are made together with the link ensuring a perfect seamless fit.

Since links can vary ever so slightly in thickness Rolex decided to make replacement screws always a bit shorter, because shorter isn't much of an issue, but one sticking out definitely is.

So what happened to my original screw? I don’t know why RSC switched it.

Might have gotten damaged and they decided to replace it instead of leaving a mangled screw. Seems like the only logical explanation.

Certainly has happened to me before, sometimes you're just not having your day and damage something.

Thanks Bas.

Bizarre as I mentioned it in advance to her. It’s so slight it’s almost like a quarter turn would level it out. I had to study it to see.

Cheers

Hi OP, I might have the answer. Check if that screw goes all the way to the other side of the link ... meaning can you see the thread side on the side of the link? If you can't, that explains it. Depending on model, there are usually either 1 or 2 "special" screws that don't go through all the way. The screw head of those ones will sit slightly lower than flush, from factory. All the other screws will be flush. Hope that makes sense. Let me know what you see.

One more thing ... if you can see the other side of the thread side, then it most likely is a replacement screw because that is exactly how replacement screws will sit (first hand experience).

I ordered replacement screws from Rolex after I damaged the head while trying to take the link out myself, only the first screw is short rest are slightly longer and they sit completely flushed in the bracelet just like the factory screws!

Hi there,

This is one of two threads on the same topic running today. Your observation is correct and has also been discussed on the other thread.

This screw I make reference to is indeed one of the special ones and cannot be seen on the other side. It’s the only one like it on that side.

All the others, which can be seen from the other side, sit entirely flush as they should.

Thank you
