Nice dresswatch the Explorer

Hi all.
I recently got hands on a nice 1993 ref 14270

I usually wear my GMT and then 36 mm all of a sudden looks a bit small on my wrist.
I wasn’t sure it was for me so decided to let it go.

But Today I gave it a chance with the suit, and man it looks nice.

So I decided to keep it..

What do you think?

IMHO smaller watches look better in long sleeves/suits.

Keep it! No doubt about it.

The 36mm Explorer was a watch that gently evolved over decades.

Although it’s basically a military watch, it’s a design that can be everything to everybody - sports watch, everyday watch, or even dress watch. It’s a design that’s perfect for the “one watch” person too, though I appreciate that’s probably nobody on this forum!

I regularly wear 34 or 36 mm watches and reckon the size is spot on if you don’t want something too intrusive. They look stunning on the bracelet, great on a strap, and transform into a almost a different watch on a military General Service strap.

Interestingly, talking to a dealer friend, he tells me there’s a definite trend towards smaller (36mm) watches. It’s not particularly driven by enthusiasts he reckons, but rather by the younger generation. They’re used to lightweight Swatches, and go straight for “mid size” watches when they upgrade.

He also reckons the new OP’s in the funky colours are “bang on target” for this market. Suspect he’s right!

It's an amazing watch, and it looks great. It's pretty solidly toolish, but it goes great with a suit or any other work clothes.
