Datejust II 116334 - Arabic - Rhodium Dial

Morning all

I have a dilemma - would you sell the above watch for £11,400? This is what I’ve recently been offered by an independent AD. Is this a bubble we are now in whereby watches are rapidly increasing in value, more so than ever before?

A while ago, some two years or so, I was offered £4k by a mainstream AD (I paid £6.1k) - obviously they would then markup to sell.

Are Datejust II suddenly sought after or is it due to DJ41 now becoming difficult to buy in AD’s where once they were relatively easy to source.

🤷🏻*♂️

If we all said yes would you sell based on total strangers advising you to do so?

Only you can decide if it's right for you. Do you need the money? Have you fallen out of love with the piece?

Personally I have this piece in my collection and it's not going anywhere. Very unique dial which I suspect is behind the increase in prices

I don't need the money and I love the piece.

Maybe you're right - the dial is unique as I've not seen it on any other model.

Why sell? Do you plan to buy another? If so you'll be looking at spending all the money you "made" paying the higher cost of another piece.

I finally got my perfect DJ II Arabic Rhodium about a month ago. This was my grail watch. I'd never sell!

Hmm! Food for thought!

Seems quite a tricky piece to obtain! Maybe why the high offer.

Has the dealer seen the watch in person and offered that? It does seem a lot.

I see a few articles have appeared regarding this watch probably due to the fact Wimbledon is on and the association with Federer.

It's different enough from the other DJII's to become a sort after piece.

Lately it seems as though if it has Rolex on the dial it sells for more

Yes. I just sold mine. (Strange coincidence.) And got nearer £7k. Found the lume weak and the watch dull without very bright sunlight to make it pop. I’m astonished by that price and would deal immediately. Well done!

You may end up regretting that decision! ;/ - although, strange coincidence indeed! Did you sell to an AD or private?

Well said. I kind of regret it, but only because of the cash. If you take money out of every decision, you judge it on its more valuable merits, you focus on the right things. (I’m divorced, for example. I pay up. I get on with their Mum. The kids are happy.). I traded the Federer in for a part exchange on a green gold GMT, which I am in love with. No regrets. The new version is major improvement in the old, in so many ways.

But, you have a point worth addressing. Good man. It was a great watch. It will be missed. But I have a new alternative, which is bucket list.

Throw away your old bank statements. Keep your old love letters.

I have this watch with the Sultan of Oman Khanjar caseback. It doesn't get a lot of wrist time, but it wouldn't be for sale, well, unless things got very silly.

OP — congratulations! That is a great offer, and certainly on the very high side of the range for that 116334.

I’d consider it your reward for loving Rolex before the hype took off, and use that 11.4K to get whatever new/other model you want. If you love the 116334 more than anything else out there, then I’d use this to adjust your insurance coverage.

Great advice all.

I'll be keeping it - The more I look at it.. the more it keeps on telling me to retain it!

Never seen the sultan case back - was not aware of that one! What's the story?

Sell it RIGHT NOW

Free money, and if you really like it, buy this one for £8495. Instant £2500 profit.

I've decided to keep it. Something tells me that this watch may be on the increase in price for whatever reason.

You have a point though. It wouldn't feel the same if I sold it only to rebuy someone elses though.

Tell you what, let me know the dealer who’ll give you £11k and I’ll sell them mine and I’ll drop you some cash! I only paid £5k for mine in January!

That's a ridiculous amount of money for that watch. If they are willing to actually pay that I'd have to say bye-bye to that watch.

I would agree, then you could go out and purchase another one and still put some money in your pocket!

Something special seems to be occurring with this particular model. Why would Rolex be discussing this watch again after all this time through their ambassador?

I am intrigued now!

Could this watch really increase in value across the board and the AD offering is aware? I dunno.. when you can still buy them for around 8k

Still didn’t receive your PM so calling bull$hit on your claims.

So I’ll call it out now. Let me have the details of your trader/dealer and I’ll sell him mine AND give £1000 to your choice of charity if he gives me £11500 as you claim.
