Too much variation?

So wondering what other people have done in this situation and whether anyone should care. New datejust. Worn all day and dial up, a consistent 2.5 or 2.6 seconds fast a day, which is outside spec. Crown down, a second a day. Is this a reason to have it looked at or normal movement behavior? (It's my first Rolex, and I read somewhere that there shouldn't be this much variation in a modern movement, but might be wrong?)

In that situation, I have worn my watches. There's lots and lots of seconds. You paid too much money to fret a couple.

There are 86400 seconds in a day if you lose one or two of these don’t worry it’s all part of the fun of owning a mechanical timepiece.

Put your watch on, wear it and enjoy it, it’s a great watch.

It is a great watch indeed. Technically though, Ive seen an unresolved debate about the -+2 standard after casing, and was wondering if that 's meant to be a standard for wearing, and across all resting positions. I think with GS for example they make a distinction between factory testing and a much wider allowance in real life of almost 10 seconds.

Consistency is more important than accuracy. I’d rather have a watch that runs +2.5/ day than having variations in different positions. Don’t open a watch for no reason when you are relatively within spec. +10 is a different story.

I wouldn’t bother unless it was off by 15-30 seconds a day

from my experience, rolex keep better time post couple of months after buying new..
both my rolex didn't keep good time when I bought them-- but after wearing them more than 8 to 10 months-- they seem to have running consistently at cosc -4+6

my new sub is consistent -3 or -4 seconds a day ... i will see how it fares after a year..

anyone with more experience please chime in..

If you are worrying about a fraction of a second you are doing watches wrong.

If you are this concerned about fractions of a second, then mechanical watches aren't for you. It's fine, leave it alone and enjoy your day!

There is nothing wrong with these numbers.

-/+ 2 seconds is an average over time, not an absolute all of the time.

My SD43 loses 7-10 seconds a day. Yes, it's not perfect, but I'm not using it to plan any military special operations where seconds matter, so-whatever. I wear it and enjoy it.

I would never even know And I wouldn’t want to. I will never buy any sort of machine that tests the time on my watches. I usually set them a couple of mins fast and always have done. Experienced an old datejust losing about an hour a day that’s the only time ever had a problem
