Need advice…

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a beautiful BB58 in blue which i really adore and it will probably be my everyday watch.
Now, that said i have an hitch… I just turned forty and I want to gift myself a Rolex.
Here is some context for you:
I live a very active life, outdoors mainly
I often have to attend business/formal dinner functions
I want to splurge but not go over board (under 10k)
I have a small wrist
I have a good relationship with my AD and could probably get something fairly soon (his words)
Do not want gold…yet
I Like the Explorer 36mm on paper but worried it isn’t dressy enough (as a second watch)
I think that’s it… I would love any insight, advice and shared experiences to help me make this decision.

Datejust 36 fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. Or oyster perpetual 36 silver dial. Use the BB58 for active and the other for casual and dressier.

The jubilee is really stunning but long term I’m confident you will prefer the classic oyster. With PCLs its going to fit into both camps. The oyster is very showy.

GMT would be my pick.

Either a BLRO or a BLNR. Splash of color, fits in with an active lifestyle, can be dressed up, or down.

EDIT: jubilee will wear a bit smaller on the wrist if you decide to go that way

OP is, in my opinion, dresser than the DJ. The DJ is more flashy and has the date, neither of which is right on a dress watch.

Get the explorer 1 and put it on leather if you want to dress it up.

Explorer 1. It is the perfect watch for what you describe. I think it looks best in a business casual setting.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys! Really appreciate it. So far I’m leaning towards either the DJ 36 smooth bezel (haven’t warmed up to fluted bezel yet) or the explorer 1 36mm.
I do like the OP but something about the double hour markers doesn’t sit well.
The YM looks gorgeous but a little more than I want to spend for my first Rolex.

Anybody care to share there experience with the new Explorer 36mm?

Datejust 36....no brainer, there are endless dial,bezel, and bracelet combinations. Five or six digit. Find the one that works for you. And post pics when you are done!

I'd go for the explorer . . . it'll become your primary watch, it's THAT awesome. I have the 39mm but it sounds like the 36mm would be great for you. With your lifestyle and most likely similar outdoorish wardrobe, you could pull off the Explorer as very dressed up or on the trail casual. Nothing is better than bagging a peak with a Rolex Explorer on your wrist (just sayin').

If you intend to keep the BB58 as your daily, then an OP or DJ (whichever configuration you like) will be just fine as a watch for your dinners (and beyond).

If you choose to jettison the BB58 for a new all-arounder, then the Explorer is an excellent choice (maybe the best choice)...will be great for outdoors and dinners.
