78360 clasp question
Hey folks, is the clasp in a 73860 adjustable?
I tried to move the position, but it doesn’t seem to have a spring bar in there. Don’t want to scratch it unnecessarily. Would I have to remove a link instead?

That is a spring bar. Press it in with a toothpick.

I suppose that someone could have rigged a replacement, but it should have a spring-bar.

I suppose that you could bend the clasp open enough to wedge the pin that is there out, but it is supposed to be a proper spring bar.
That is the whole point of the holes in the clasp, plus a spring bar; to make minor adjustments easy.

Incidentally, if you decide to replace it with a spring-bar as it should be, you need a special clasp spring-bar with short tips. If you use a normal spring-bar that goes between lugs, the ends will extend outside the clasp, which sometimes snags on things.

Sometimes they are extremely stiff if they’ve been used in and out of water over many years and not been adjusted.

78360 clasp question
I would treat that pin as if the internal spring has corroded on one end or the other. That is why you had difficulty getting it to release. I’d replace it before using it with that clasp again.
You can find them online or go to a watchmaker. The other cause for it to have become stiff is gunk inside instead of corrosion. No need to buy a new one. That is easier to treat: First with heat - if the pin is still in the clasp, focus the heat only upon the clasp areas where the pin is located. After that, soak the pin in penetrating oil to reach deeper inside, then work the springs to more effectively get that oil deeper. This not only dissolves the stick gunk, it help prevent future corrosion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
