Dial swap question

I am considering swapping the dials, hands and date wheels between these two watches. I think the blue mosaic dial will look great in the gold case, and I also think the silver sunburst dial will look great in the two-tone case. Both dials are period correct for the respective cases and production years. I would appreciate any thoughts before I do this.

Also, would this create any future issue with a RSC if either watch were ever to go there for service? I don’t know if Rolex keeps track of what dial a datejust left the factory with. I doubt it, but I’d appreciate any comments from those more knowledgeable.

Bradley, that's a nice pair there. I don't think there's going to be any problem with the RSC if they ever go there. Just my opinion you are right that blue mosaic dial will really pop on that gold case in the other one will look just fine on the two tone.

Rolex know what dial it came with but if it’s period correct and factory original it’s ok

Nice swap idea. I agree, that blue dial looks like it belongs in the gold case. If you do it lets see the pictures

Thanks David. I always value your expertise. I didn't know that Rolex maintains records of the original configuration, but I'm not surprised. I wanted to make sure that I don't jeopardize (in the eyes of RSC) two watches by switching dials.

I'm bumping this thread with hopes of getting some opinions. Would you swap dials between these two wathces?

Sure, why not try it? You can always switch it back. Just make sure you have a good, careful watchmaker who won't damage the dials or hands.

Alternately, you could use Photoshop to create an image of what the gold watch would look like with the blue dial. That would give you a very good idea before having to do the actual switch.

RSC most likely would not know nor care. (Modern Rolexes would be a different story.)

I would say go for it. I think it would look great as well. Be sure to post some pictures once it’s done, I would love to see it.

Cool, thanks for sharing your opinions. I appreciate that and wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something that would make this a bad choice. I will definitely share pictures once it's done.

This seems to me like a very good idea.

It offers you a quick and easy way to confirm that you like both of the swapped looks, before making the swap. I’ll also echo the advice to use someone who’ll be very careful with your dials - I’m sure you know that, no matter how much care is taken, doing the swap involves some (likely small, but unavoidable) risk of damage to your lume.

Here is a picture that I borrowed from the Internet, source unknown as I saved it on my phone a while back. No imagination needed here, same gold case with a blue mosaic dial. What do you guys think, is it worth the swap?
