Introduction with pics! GMT GMT PAM :)
Hey guys,
Signed up for TRF last year but I really hardly ever posted up. I'm 30 years old, working in an internet related business, and proud owner of a gmt pepsi with the rare spider dial and a -blah blah blah- I know you guys just want pics. lol - ON TO THE PICS! The Panerai 212 comes with a carbon fiber laid over leather strap. I think they're something like $900 new. lol Sorry for the blurry pic, the camera I have isn't the best. I also bought a GMT for my brother since he graduated med school! :) My impressions of these watches: Rolex GMT: Great classic design and immediately recognizable in a business setting where the opposite party is going to try to size you up based on your looks. Extremely durable no matter the scenario. I daily wear my GMT to do just about EVERYTHING and I even swim with it sometimes (pool, not ocean). Panerai 212: Sweet looking watch but more of a novelty type of watch in my opinion. From what I've observed after buying one, the watch brand is more for the "newly affluent" vs the old school affluent crowd and it's certainly an eye catcher. It's not as recognizable as the GMT but the unique locking mechanism is a dead giveaway to other watch fans out there. It's kinda neat because it really filters out the crowd. If someone knows it's a Panerai, then yep, we end up talking for a bit about watches. If not, eh, no worries - business as usual. As far as durability is concerned, I can't speak of other Panerai watches but the 212 should be worn LIKE IT'S JEWELRY!! Don't you dare go out and pull weeds with it, mow the yard, swim, etc because you will most certainly scratch it up. Just for the record, I haven't done those things with my 212 but after wearing it around a bit, it does tend to pick up some "character" in normal office/house environments. With the GMT, I never had any issues of it scratching (love that 904L steel!). Going forward: I think I'll probably keep these two and pick up a DeepSea in the next couple of years (or sooner - anyone know of a good deal floating around?). I really like the uniqueness of the watch and the size appeals to me. It's like having the Panerai-like size and presence while retaining the durability of a Rolex! :) Other than these, I haven't bought too many watches. One was a Seiko for the ex-gf and a nice little trendy Swiss Army Convoy for the current gf. Ok, that's all folks! On to the next new member! |

thanks guys. what's funny about the GMT watches is the fact that the bezels are diff. I prefer the older version with the slightly thicker ring of color. just my preference.
