Rolex Explorer Two-Tone Ref. 124273

Finally got to see the explorer two-tone while traveling as an exhibition piece. The dial was stunning! It seems like there has been very little talk about the model on the forum. Why is that?

TT has always garnered less traction than SS. One rare example of an exception is the CHNR

people here don't think the explorer should have ever been two tone so that and the fact that it's 36mm is mostly why

36mm may be winning back my heart after many years of the 214270 39mm. But not 2-tone drek!

Wonder what people think about a Two Tone SeaDweller with a cyclops.

Fair but this feels different due to the size. My wife tried it on and feel in love with it.

I think the 124273 is a very nice looking watch, it absolutely should exist, just not as an "Explorer" model. It's a beautiful OP36 TT.

The SD mystique was lost the moment a cyclops was affixed to it.

The SD mystique was lost the moment a cyclops was affixed to it.

That encapsulates it perfectly for me...it just became another beefier Submariner.

Not for these old eyes, loved my 16600 but the 126600 let’s me leave the specs off and young chicks dig me again.

I think your "people here" remark is overstating your point just a tad, don't you? I know quite a few people here who like the watch a whole heckuva lot, including a number of those posting to this thread.

Here's the reason I like mine:

It's a thumb-in-the-eye to the rigid traditionalists who don't want to see the line blurred between "tool" and "dress." They want their tool watches for spelunking the depths of the earth, and they want their dress watches for nights at the opera.

But here's the truth: There are very few spelunkers and opera aficionados among us. Most people don't live their lives as illustrated by Rolex ads from the 1990s. Very few Milgauss watches were ever worn by nuclear scientists, and even fewer Deepseas ever saw James Cameron in person.

Moreover, the TT 124273 thrusts something even more substantial against anyone whose lack of confidence makes them tremble at the thought of a man daring to wear a 36. Tell that to generations of our fathers and grandfathers for whom a 36 mm Rolex was considered quite large.

The TT 124273 36 may be a renegade for certain anxious traditionalists, but it's a beautiful piece that Rolex got exactly right for a new generation. As the secondary market price skyrockets during the next year, some of us will enjoy the inevitable gnashing of teeth by some people here.

Here's a pic of mine I just took...

Here's mine. To me, in person, the 124273 is gorgeous, in a charming, subtle way. It has just the right amount of yellow gold to make it pop but not overpower the watch. Still has a tool vibe, but the combination of warm yellow gold, cold stainless steel, and glossy deep black dial is very sexy (sorry, I know in this photo the black dial looks matte, but in real life it's glossy deep black).

I know the purists don't like it, and they can buy the 124270, but the two tone Explorer is lovely. The 36mm sizing is also a welcome change. I love my 40mm SubC and BLNR, but this Explorer is the most comfortable of the three and fits my 6.875" wrist like a glove. OP, thanks for giving it some love!

Very nice. It looks better every time I see it. More photos!

I was glad to see the Explorer return to 36mm. I think it looks better at 36mm, and I really like the TT version. I may try to grab one over the next year or so.

I have both the 124270 and 273, and I’d say don’t dismiss the TT until you’ve had the chance to check it out in person.

It is a pretty understated piece, and with the new case/bracelet dimensions, can fly under the radar.

The SS can finish off a one-watch collection, but the TT is a great compliment to an existing SS-heavy collection.

I love my two tone explorer. Whilst it may be a kick in the teeth to the original Rolex explorer heritage for some, for me I think it captures the grandeur of the watches history with he use of precious metals. The sizing is so much more flexible and I think it will age well.

With the TT Submariner having been around for so long, the SD in TT seems less "shocking", IMHO.

I guess most people here never heard of the 5701 two-tone Explorer Date. Personally speaking the new TT Explorer is my favourite current Rolex.

I am the complete opposite after a lifetime of seeing to see it with no cyclops this is shocking.
