The SD is engineering at its best.

But the Speedmaster went to the moon.

It’s nice to have both.

Great watches! One of my biggest regrets is not getting that Speedmaster many years ago when they were much more reasonable.

The 16600 is one of my favourites, easily one of the best dive watches ever.

I hear you! I’ve had my Speedy reduced since 1990. I picked it for its size. No regrets. Remains a fantastic and super accurate watch and I just ordered a different bracelet for variety. At that time I remember the Speedy Pro (861) would’ve been only marginally more, maybe around 1300 Swiss Francs at the time? I watched it go up in price over the years and I always wanted to get one of those. Finally got one and ended up paying full retail price (for a technically used watch). Only two or three years ago I could’ve had this for half that probably.

I see the same thing happening with the 16600. Probably still one of the best “bargains” out there since - for whatever reason- it’s not as popular as the other “subs”. To me it’s the culmination of all the best Rolex features in one watch.

Excellent story! I'm glad you were able to get one in the end. As sourcing other brands becomes increasingly difficult it's inevitable some Omega models, especially the Speedmaster will encounter an influx of collectors seeking one (or more).

Agreed with the 16600, it's incredibly versatile and historically significant. What I would give to have a Comex Sea-Dweller, I tell ya!

I've got a few tool kits, a box, and booklets in my collection for that model Sea-Dweller. Albeit still well priced, all seem to be selling in the US on eBay. So even if I buy the seller and find a private sale, I'll be hit with import fees and duties as it was manufactured outside of North America. Looking back to the good old days I have a very hard time paying what some are asking these days, but if I was to do so this 16600 for sure would be it!
