NEW WATCH TO GET: ROLEX 5513 or CELLINI MOONPHASE
Hello Everyone,
I am following your forum for a while now but never been a member despite having a rolex 16613 to be sold soon. i am writing to you because I will get married soon and honestly I would like to buy a watch in addition for this unique moment so I will sell my 16613 for either rolex 5513 or 50535 "Cellini moonphase" I know these watches are completely different by style, price and history and I am selling my 16613 in order to help finance this project. I already have a nice Omega Brest Seamaster (offered by my parents for my graduation so it is more sentimental at this level and nice dresswatch). * ROLEX 5513 I love this watch as a big fan of James Bond and the Roger Moore era.. It is really lovely and would like to wear it daily if possible ( I am always taking care of my watch but do not see them as investment). The issue is I never manage to try one and the closest model was the 14060 which is quite similar in size I believe but more modern only for colours. Anyway I love it but quite classic to be honest and do not know If I can get bored of it at sometimes but that s really a childhood dream. * ROLEX 50535 CELLINI MOONPHASE I know there are other watches in this budget and also it is a cellini and not a real moonphase mechanism BUT this watch is simply amazing, I tried it like several times at an AD and each time I am completely absorbed by the blue enamel and I am looking for a moonphase for a while, it is just this one feel love at first sight honestly. On the same time, I am thinking the budget is high for this watch even if I will eat pasta for a bit of time lol I am just really fascinated by this one sincerely but having a dresswatch already and potentiel lower prices in year to come ( it might be a future project but I doubt) At the same time I am looking for the watch of my life now.. Let me know your feedback please as I am really lost lol (there are worse issues in life definitely). I just do not know what to choose even if my heart goes a bit to moonphase. Once again, I am not looking at watch for investment but to wear them and enjoy :) Does not mean using hammer with it lol |

The 5513 is a masterpiece but not sure how practical it is to actually wear it frequently. Setting aside investment, for collection building purposes maybe you buy the 5513 first (it will never be cheaper in the future than it is today) and get the moonphase later on.

I personally would prefer the 5513 as I'm not a dress watch person and really have little to no use for one. Hard to get more polar opposites than these two.

For daily wear I would buy instead a 14060M 2 liner instead of a 5513. The last of the best Subs. It’s almost identical to the glossy dials 5513’s of the late 1980’s but with a better movement, triplock crown, superluminova, and sapphire crystal, which would seal the deal for me. Never mind that’s at least 10k less expensive for a good example.

5513 without hesitation.
Many other watches in the Cellini landscape that I'd rather have. |

5513 by a mile. Excellent watches! I split time between vintage and modern but there’s something about those old 4 digit pieces that get me every time.

5513. Remember that even if it feels filmsy or old, it was used as an actual instrument back then. The world hasn’t changed. What was sturdy back then is still solid today.

I would not pay the premium for a 5513 and would instead look to a modern late five digit or six digit Submariner. The Cellini is a nice watch but there are a lot of other options in the market for significantly less, JLC for one, that I would not pay for a Rolex version.

5513 no doubt. But it’s not the best watch as a daily due to the plexiglass plus a nice one will have a lot of value within its marinated dial and hands. If it’s gets water and you need to change by service parts a lot of the charm of the watch is gone. Finally finding a very nice all correct parts 5513 with a sharp case and nice patina is kind of difficult. If you go the 5513 route make sure you only by from reputable vintage dealers like HQMilton , TropicalWatches etc….

5513 is a classic, Cellini isn’t. If you want a dress watch, better options out there like JLC.

You've come to the wrong place if you're asking for recommendations that include Cellini. You could've listed literally any other watch in the universe vs. the Cellini and the vote would've have been 99% for it over the Cellini.
So, in conclusion, you're going to have to make your own mind up bc I can tell you, without reading another response, what the answer is going to be according to TRF. A parting thought: You couldn't have picked two watches at farther ends of the spectrum. One vintage, one new. One sports, one dressy. One steel bracelet, one leather. You get the idea. Anyway, your best bet is figuring out what kind of watch guy you are, your sense of fashion, your lifestyle, and then get the watch that complements all that the best. You're just spinning your wheels asking that question on this forum. Psst...I like the Cellini, too, but don't tell anyone. I don't want people showing up to my house with torches and pitchforks. |

One does wonder if the Cellini Moonphase becomes a "why didn't we know" type watch down the road we all kick ourselves we didn't get.

I would take the Cellini because it is a unique Rolex watch in so many ways. Obviously the moon phase and the dial materials, also a unique curved lug end strap, and solid gold deployant. The 5513 was produced for over 20 years and although it is a great piece in the history of the company I would take the current 126610 over the 5513. I say this because while I do appreciate vintage Rolex I am fine with the current issue. If you like vintage Rolex then by all means the 5513 would be one to own.

Maybe not the 5513 but Subs in general are a dime a dozen. Go with the Cellini.

Totally different watches but I'd go with the Cellini moonphase.

5513, or 14060 for a bit more ruggedness. Timeless choice, well-suited for a wedding.
Then one day get a JLC Ultra Thin Moon or a Lange Saxonia Moonphase if you want to splurge! |

It really depends on your preference for a dress watch vs a sports watch.
Either way it’s hard to beat one of, if not THE most iconic watch in history…. Good luck |
