Tudor - fit is weird (wears like a cylinder)?!

Hey all,

Just got back from the Tudor boutique in Chelsea after trying on a few of their models.

I really REALLY wanted to like the Tudors (been lusting after the BB ceramic) but after having tried them on - I'm glad I didn't buy sight unseen.

The faces are really nice but I can't get over how they just seem to be like a big cylinder block of a watch. The flow between the lugs and the watch band (be it a nato strap or a leather strap) has a weird gap and the difference between watch height and strap is almost like a step... I'm not sure if it even fits under a dress cuff?

Tried on the Bucherer brass with worn leather strap, the 925 and a Pelagos and they all had the same issue. Kinda disappointed, my wife and I really liked the looks but unfortunately my Rolex (old Coke) just sat way better on the wrist...

I did try on the Batman on a Jubilee and it's gorgeous so may go hunting for that one, but in the boutique I didn't even bother asking for availability...

If Tudor watches felt and wore like a Rolex, especially with regard to weight, thickness, and bracelet quality, there would be no need for Rolex.

As other have stated, try the BB58. I had the same issue with the Black Bay series before the release of the BB58 and walked away disappointed. I later tried on the 58 upon its release and was hooked. Wears like an old sub.

I just picked up my first Tudor and I’ve got to say it actually fits and wears very well. It feels more like my speedy than my Sub. To each their own, but I’m very impressed with the build.

Fair enough. First, you’re not a wis until you buy unseen or something unworn. Second, you likely didn’t try some of the 39mm ones or ones on leather because there’s more Tudor variety than Rolex and that includes comparing weights and sizes. But if you can stretch for a Rolex by all means get one.

Perhaps why the Prince line was discontinued (except for certain Asian markets)? Those essentially were Rolexes on the outside.

The BB58 certainly wears much better on my 7” wrist than the Tudor GMT (I have owned both) yet I ultimately couldn’t live with the BB58 bracelet from a fit/lack of adjustability and comfort standpoint. It comes damn close, but I’ve been spoiled by the six digit sub Glidelock which to me is truly the perfect bracelet.

However, the BB58 dial is WAY more legible at a glance than current Rolex offerings IMHO.

BB58 ruined my 79230 (BB41) ownership experience. As much as I loved the watch, something about the proportions we're just not right. Having the BB58 side by side with it exacerbated that to the point I couldn't unsee it, and now it's sold.

Wearing your watch should be a joy, not torture. Fortunately for me, my BB GMT is very comfy on my wrist, but so is my DSSD and it is quite a bit bulkier.
I am lucky (I think) in that my wrists are a reasonable size at around 7.25-7.5 inches and also quite flat. If they were not comfy, they would all go until I found ones that are.

Personal preference and experience have a lot to do with how we perceive watches. For a younger enthusiast, not necessarily age as much as experience, many factors play in that for older collectors are pluses and not minuses. A Tudor is not a Rolex, not in design or execution. It was not meant to be and while you can see the DNA of both Rolex and Tudor they are different and distinctive. Another factor that impacts fit and wear is that bracelet models have not been adjusted for the wearer and can cause issue with appearance and fit. With so many great brands in the market, Tudor/Omega/Seiko/GS/JLC/IWC just to name a few that are readily available the OP should go out and check them out. All great brands with some very cool offerings. Don't set Tudor aside though, they have many offerings and I am sure that there is one or two that will work for the OP. Good luck and have fun.

The BB proportions just feel made for my wrist. Gotta find what work best for you.

I have a rather large wrist (prob around 8 or 8.5") so the 925 looked dainty... Almost like I stole my wife's watch and put it on.

The regular Bucherer was nice and fit from looking top down on it, but the height of the case combined with the protruding caseback made it sit really high in the wrist... Coupled with the nato strap / lack of integrated bracelet seemed to exacerbate the look of it...

Again, not criticizing as its certainly not trying to be a Rolex (in fact I do like the watch face of the Tudor more these days), just wanting to know whether other folks had similar experiences

Made for a Daytona . A little sloppy but they do the job. Need to find a deeper end link as Smarty doesn’t make them for the BB 58. Which surprised me considering. Bracelet is nice but the BB58 looks great on straps.
