Alternative

I tried but could not purchase a 2nd Rolex. I called my AD and a few others locally in Toronto, no luck at all and they won’t even put me in a waiting list.

I am now thinking of a Cartier Santos Large (40mm). A watch with white dial would compliment my existing Submariner.

What do you guys think of the Santos? I know this is a Rolex forum but I am sure many of you are watch connoisseurs.

Santos is a classic. Good choice. Will compliment a sub nicely.

I certainly want a Daytona Panda or the Hulk but since they are impossible to get, I will settle with the Kermit.
Do you know if it is hard to get a Santos Large? I plan to go to a Cartier boutique to check it out.

It should be easy to get a Santos; there are a lot of great options. Easy strap change, great story, adjustable links without a tool, strap monster...so many good things to say about the Santos.

I own the Santos in medium and I can without a doubt say this is a contender for a "one watch collection." The ability to quickly remove the bracelet and put on a strap makes this easy to wear in any situation, formal to sporty.

I picked up the Santos medium. It is super comfortable. and I really enjoy mine. As for discount, I don't think you can get one but couldn't hurt to ask

I passed by a Cartier store this week so I went in to look at the watches. The white-dial large Santos is great and it comes with both metal bracelet and calfskin strap.
Unfortunately, if I want a black strap, it would be an alligator strap and costs a few hundred more.
How is the calfskin strap? How is it compared to the alligator strap? Is the alligator strap worth the extra money?

In general, gator is better. It will last many times longer than a calf strap, especially a gator strap comes with a deployant. I'd cough up extra $ for the gator.

My wrist is only 6.5 inches. My other watch is a 40mm Submariner and it looks great for my wrist.
Hope my wrist is not too small for the Santos-Large.

How do you, Santos owners, deal with scratches on your Santos?

I have scratches in my SS Submariner (7-8 years old) and they don’t bother me at all. Are scratches more apparent in the Santos? I read that Santos is impossible to polish.

I also saw the new Santos PVD in the store but I still prefer the classic white dial in large format.

Santos is an outstanding watch with the best bracelet adjustment and strap change system in the business. I have a number of straps to change the look. Here are a few.

Santos is a classic, for sure. I’m partial to the medium since it doesn’t have a date function. Just think about why you want it first. Has it always been a watch you want, or are you settling?

I always like the Santos. I had the Santos-100 many years ago but unfortunately, I lost the watch. The older Santos was more chunky than it is now but I thoroughly enjoyed the watch.

My current watch is a no-date Submariner (114060). It has a black dial so I would like my 2nd watch to be white dial. I would like another Rolex but they are impossible to get these days.

While doing research of the new Santos, I came across the Santos PVD. It then reminded me that the classic, white-dial Santos was and still is a scratch magnet (Santos-100 and the new Santos). With my OCD which is getting worse and worse these years, I am concerned. This is why I asked the question.

I have the same wrist size and went with the medium. I could pull of the large but the medium looked much better.

I found the large is more sporty. I tried it in a Cartier store and it looks great; it is not much bigger than my Submariner
I am now concerned about scratches on the bezel and the bezel-surround.

I just purchased this, will arrive Tuesday! Thile wrist picture is from another member here. I think less scratch on
the bezel with these type variants. You may want to check them out!
