Thinking of buying a used WG Pepsi - what can go wrong...

I'm potentially looking at buying a WG Pepsi from a private seller but the link near the lug has a slight nick/chip on the edge of it.

Firstly, can this be repaired? Or will a new bracelet be needed at £xxxxx?

Secondly, how does it affect its value as it is?

Thirdly, how to check if it's not a fake - never bought a used piece before. I know about the coronet at 6 o'clock but harder to check authenticity in general when the caseback is solid. Would one weigh it?

Weight will be a definate indicator.. there is a world of difference between a high end £400 fake and a £40,000 precious metal Rolex. Buy the seller is the best advice. Marks and scratches don't seem to have any impact on value.

You won’t just be able to buy a new link for a non removable one you have to buy the whole set for that side.

Also the earlier ones (116719) didn’t have the coronet at 6.

I would be hesitant if I was you given your limited knowledge, and only be buying from anything other than a really well established business.

I would be cautious, not too difficult to replace the black dial on a steel model with blue and try and pass off as WG, weight would be a give away but still I would be worried given the cost

Buy the seller. Weight of WG compare to stainless is almost 2x. I can tell you that meteorite dial is something out of this world. :-)

Buy the seller AND the watch. I bought the seller once - a really great guy - but ignored the details of the watch so I blindly bought a watch that was over-polished and beat to heck.

So make sure you get the images you want and pay attention to what they're selling, regardless.

Well, to be honest, it already has. There are too many nice examples out there to be wasting your time with damaged goods.

I mean, if you're going to treat yourself with a gold watch, treat yourself. My two cents.
