Looking at a late 70’s 1680

Hello all, I’m looking at purchasing a birth year Submariner and need some advice. It appears to have a Mark 1 dial. From the research I’ve done, it has a service bezel and the wrong bracelet based on what it should have came with. I’m waiting for a reply with more pictures or better ones, so I still need to check some other things (date wheel should be silver with black numbers if original). Patina on hands seems to match the dial, so I’m guessing original. The watch is listed on multiple sites such as eBay and Chrono24, so I’m hoping it’s the real deal.

What else should I be looking for? It doesn’t have the box or any paperwork which I’m okay with. I do plan on wearing it regularly. It says it was serviced recently, but not by who. So I’m waiting for that in the reply too. I’ve been saving for a while for something of this magnitude and just don’t want to be taken to the cleaners. I’ve been doing a lot of research and it almost feels overwhelming at this point.

TIA

Thank you. I work nights and I’m about to go to bed. Hopefully when I wake up I’ll have some pictures and more info in my email.

I think you are chasing what many have done before you. I like to think condition and value outweighs being about the same age as me. Good luck - pictures are needed so we can help.

Buy the seller before you buy the watch! Look closely at the dial and the dial edges, I’ve seen a lot of 1680 dials that are damaged on the edges…

They didn’t send me any other pictures today, only replied that it was serviced by their shop and the date wheel is silver/black as it should be. I can’t post pictures until I have 10 posts apparently.
