I’ll be on Watchtime as well and have a question. Is it safe to wear a nice watch for the event? Will it be embarrassing if I show up with, say, a MoonSwatch?

For Watchtime, of course it's safe, there will be much nicer watches there than whatever you have. I tried on a GF Hand Made 1 two years back.

Or, wear a swatch, no one cares either way.

Edit: I'm not going to the windup fair, could be all gangsters wearing clown suits for all I know, but probably same deal: No one cares what you wear and there will be some security but don't act like a fool.

I'll be there, always a fun event. I always see some pretty serious hardware walking around in there as well (Romain Gauthier, Patek, VC, MB&F, Urwerk... it all shows up). Great place to connect with the community and hang out.

Wear whatever you wish. There will be "bigger fish" there with more expensive watches and guys with GShocks.

My suggestion is to wear something that will start a conversation. That way you might make a new friend.

Last year, I went specifically to see the Antarctiques in the Czapek booth. In the crowd, I was able to see several other variants of the watch including some limited editions. I struck up a conversation with those owners and was able to try on their watches as well. My mission was more than accomplished.

I hope you enjoy your trip.

This event always falls on the same weekend as F1 in Austin. Would have loved to attend since it’s local. Ugh.

Watchtime is a bit more formal, with the more familiar slate of brands across the high end. Great place to see watches you won't often get to see elsewhere, and meet some interesting people in the process.

Windup is free and much more casual. Lots of enthusiasts and enthusiast groups show up and many people hang out all day through the weekend (there's a bar I think). It's a very different vibe. Also a great place to see watches you can't see elsewhere. Brands may be less familiar, with the likes of Baltic, Serica, Formex, Oris, G-Shock, Autodromo, and others.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other, they are very different, but will all depend on what you're looking for and what you're into.
