Have no clue which will hold more value......But I'd still pick the 2254 between these 2. If it was the Liquid Metal LE....I'd sing a different tune.

My guess is the PO will hold value better especially being the first gen. I personally feel the 2254, though a wonderful piece, has a very 90s style to it that I can't get past. I've had both of these watches and feel the PO's more simplistic design and size options will stand the test of time no matter what the current watch size fads are.

That's difficult to answer because both are very popular models. Only time will tell but the Planet Ocean is a first generation and people seem to really like that watch. It'll be close but at least you have both of them!

Both are great watches, but I vote for PO. As mentioned above it's first generation PO and has simpler cleaner design with pretty unique hands.

My vote is PO as well... esp since its the 2500 as oppose to the bulkier 8500...

Tough as the hey are both nice watches and both already highly collectible . Although I personally prefer the Seamaster I think the PO has an edge in the collectibility stakes as it's a first gen with a cleaner design than later models.

The 2254 is already outperforming the PO in terms of value. They're costing more now than they did when they were new.

The 2254. It's a bit more unique. Also, the 1120 a tractor of a movement. The PO is a bit like the early generation Aqua Terra. Omega still makes almost the exact same-looking watch. Conversely, the 2254 in terms of the dial, and the bracelet, is different from the current incarnation of the SMP. Value aside, I would much rather wear the 2254 as well. It's a svelte, well-made 300M sports watch with a tried-and-true movement.

2254 all day long.

i've owned both those watches along with about 9 different SMP's and PO's.

i always go back to the "Bond" era SMP... even the quartz versions satisfied me.

The PO is one of the great dive watches ever..........had the 2500 on the Shark Cage Mesh bracelet........my son has it now. The 2254 always reminded me of a Seiko diver.......

Reviving this old thread.
The 2254 prices have rocketed in recent years so I am picking that. I also own one. Fabulous watch but confess I have mixed feelings. It runs very well, is superb under the sea and the dial is a work of art, but the Speedy style bracelet doesn't work for me. Never has. I have been ruined by jangly oyster bracelets and still believe the simple 114270 Explorer is the best watch for me. That being said, picking up a great 2254 is something I highly recommend.

After owning both that’s a tough decision, I would imagine the 2500D would hold a little better but I haven’t checked recent values on either yet. These are the 2 references I usually recommend when someone asks fir my opinion on a nice first sports watch to purchase.

Planet Ocean is Omega at its best. Seamaster always reminded me of some of those cheap Seikos. It’s really quite unattractive.

Have owned both (2254 and 2500D PO) over the years, currently own the 2230 which is the Non AC dial version of the 2254 with 18K bezel and raised markers on the dial. Prefer 2254 series over PO as they are slimmer; caliber 1120 is a workhorse !

Also own a Bond GMT which has the caliber 2628D coaxial movement :
