HELP Buying Bracelet Datejust 36

Hello friends!

I have owned my datejust 36 (16014) for 42 years, and I am in the process of reconditioning it. My questions are:

1. Where can I buy a high-quality 20MM jubilee bracelet for it, as I would like to use my Rolex clasp with it?

2. Potentially, I am "thinking" about upgrading the clasp to Rolex's newer look, as my clasp is 42 years old. That said, I am guessing this needs to be purchased from an AD. Do you know an AD who discounts clasps for Rolex (I'm guessing parts are not discounted since it's a high-profit center for them)?

THANK YOU!

P.S. Please don't tell me to keep my DJ "period" correct, as it will be handed down to my son. And yes, if I replace the original clasp, I will ensure that the OEM clasp will be kept in the DJ's original box.

Have you considered getting it reconditioned?

I doubt ADs discount anything Rolex these days. I also do not believe you can buy a clasp separately from Rolex or an AD without surrendering the clasp you have to them. And Rolex doesn't retrofit anything so they would have to have your style clasp in stock which is doubtful. Have the whole bracelet and clasp reconditioned with gold added as needed to look brand new by Rolliworks or Zimmerman.

Yeah it really doesn't work that way. You can't just waltz into an AD and start buying up parts to "upgrade" an older watch. The only way to source anything like you're asking for is eBay, forums like this, etc. And then you don't have any guarantee of authenticity.

How about sending the watch to RSC for service.
If the bracelet is worn as you say, they will offer you a replacement Rolex bracelet as an option on your service estimate. If you are passing the watch down to your Son, RSC service + new bracelet sounds like a good place to start.

Let us know what you decide.

Parts are changed on a trade-in basis, for the most part. There are some oddities or work-arounds, at least according to the Rolex Service guide book my shop has. For OP's situation, if the watch head came in without the bracelet (or the customer wishes to keep the original bracelet), Rolex tells me to charge 40% more for a new bracelet. I would have to install the new bracelet, but in that sense they could have both the newest clasp for that model, and the original bracelet. Whatever another person does with those pieces after that is out of my hands.
