16750 Matte Dial Relumed hands/non original?
Got a 16750 matte dial from a reputable dealer recently.
They told me everything was original and non replaced (they got it from original owner). When I use UV light on the watch it seems like the hour and minute hand have a sparkle white effect to them and dont glow at all. The dial is more of a green and it seems the GMT hand and second hand still glow (altho it looks a little lighter than the dial). The lume doesn't glow at all after taking the UV light out. Is it possible these hands were relumed/unoriginal. The hands are a lot lighter than the aging of the dial. |

there are two common versions of the 16750 matte dials. I suggest you look them up properly and figure out which one yours is or if its a tritium service dial. I cbb to do the work for you.
FWIW, I have a 16750 and it does not glow at all. |

I would judge more by the colors you are seeing than a story told by a dealer that was supposedly attributed to the original owner.

Below are a couple photos from one of my circa 1981 GMT 16750s under the UV. The dial is a Mark II.

Springers dial/hands is what you'd expect (a ghostly greeny white while UV on the dial, then nothing after UV taken away) ...your dial looks ok but the hands are very odd, could be the angle of UV light.
The GMT and second hand seems to have a very even but quite low dull UV reflecting back to my eyes. If minute/HR are relumed and/or recoloured hands, they usually go to a dull nothingness (no reflection back) under UV after say 15-20 yrs.... those are a very uniform slightly weird creamy yellow colour under UV! They are clearly not Luminova Service hands of course either. More macro photos be useful from various angles and different room settings if poss pls.

Not just under UV. They seem to look very different to the naked eye also.

That is correct. In a darkened room under UV, the dial markers and hands glow white. Shut off the light, and the white glow is gone. I've owned dozens of these GMT 16750s and this is typical of how they look and react under UV with tritium markers and hands. Later replacement hands, as late as 1999 when I believe the tritium hands were discontinued, might look slightly different under the UV.

I would agree with your assessment. It does appear the hands have been changed - especially when you consider the watch appears to have a set of hands free from any corrosion, marks or aging which appear in like-new condition.

GMT and second hand have a lighter color for sure than the dial. The hour and minute hand have a sparkling white color |

It’s still a nice watch, let’s see the case. Is the dial clean?
