116500 Needs Service
Hi TRF,
My 116500 needs service; it is losing 20-30 seconds per day after running well for several years. it is very important to me that only the movement is serviced and that the watch remains completely unpolished. I've read horror stories about RSC polishing watches even when asked not to. I'm seriously considering an independent. Is Phillip Ridley or a place like Rolliworks my best bet to make absolutely sure this watch doesn't get polished during service? All guidance welcome

I had my 116500 serviced by RSC, I requested no polish as the watch was in pretty good condition and I prefer the "used" look. The watch came back unpolished and serviced as requested.

Send it to Dallas RSC and request a no polish movement service only. They will honor your request.

As others have said just request no polish. My Sub went to the RSC 2 weeks ago and I had this email from the AD.

Take it to a good independent and get just the work done that you require
I’m sure if you do a search the same names like the ones you mentioned crop-up a lot and come highly recommended |

I have serviced Daytona's before and had good experiences with both New York and Dallas.

To be honest if you wear it in rotation with other watches I wouldn’t even bother sending it in - but if it’s your daily different story, ask for no polish and hope they listen

Ive used RSC Dallas at least a dozen times (I have 2 there right now and another going soon)
I have never had them polish any of my watches, they even discount the full service when you do not have them do a polish. I have never had an issue. You will list no polish on the form when you send it in and when they send you the estimate it will be listed no polish on the estimate.

It’s your choice and money, but I’m only going back to Rolex, I wouldn’t buy a Porsche and let mad Ted service it, up to you my friend ..

I recently sent my Deepsea to the service center. Came back quickly, no issues, no polish. Send to Rolex. Get the warranty. They stand behind their work. This notion of going to a third party instead is absolutely absurd

With Ridley you can speak directly to him and decide exactly what you want. You will never be in that situation with the RSC. As you say, by the time the watch gets to the actual tech doing the job, sometimes a routine refinish is done before anybody checks the paperwork. I don't know why it is important to you, but if so, do what you can to ensure you get what you want with the least hassle; some things you can't undo.

When mine requires service, if I request it and pay for it, will Rolex (USA) replace the original crystal with one of the new Daytona crystals that has AR coating on the underside?
