With the recent price increase, is it me or...

The Yacht-master 40 in stainless steel has suddenly become a very good value proposition? You get a professional Rolex model with a solid platinum bezel insert for not much more money than a submariner date.

But it's when you compare the price to a two-tone submariner, you can clearly see the gap widening to such an extent that you wonder why you would pay such a premium just for a touch of shiny gold. In fact, I would be curious to know how much gold content you get in a two-tone Sub against the weight of the platinum insert in a YM. Even a two-tone YM is barely more expensive than a two-tone Sub and surely there is much more gold content in the bezel insert alone right?

All said and done I’d prefer a Submariner, that’s just the choice I would make .. having had some ..

I agree about the separation. I always perceived the TT Submariner to be a bargain relative to the YM 40. I just felt you got much more watch for not a lot more money. But now the price separation between the two has widen by quite a bit.
