How do the five digits hold up in the quality stakes? I absolutely love the proportions, but worry it won’t feel great on the wrist.

Lighter, a touch "jangly". Certainly the tuna can clasp won't win any awards (especially if you've worn a 6-digit milled clasp for any period of time).

But now that they're old enough to be considered neovintage there's definitely a lot of old-school charm there. Loving my new-to-me 16570.

Oof. Those NOS ones on Chrono 24 are looking so tempting!

Maybe the appropriate and versatile watch ever created -
Can easily be worn to a Black Tie event and the beach.

Hah for sure. Except I spoke with a few folks who said that, if you were going to buy a NOS piece that old to wear, you'd almost certainly want to have it serviced first. Since the watch most likely has just sat for 10, 15, ?? years and everything's all dried up.

So add in another $1k for service and the price starts to feel a little

I went for a watch from 2011 (so 3186 mvmt) in minty condition with a 2020 service card and feel very good about it

Really hard to find much wrong here and simple is better sometimes. And I don’t really care how much text is on the dial. I found a slider set from 2009 that’s hardly been worn and keeps time to one second over the past three weeks and I plan to wear the shite out of it! Cheers!!

Have to agree 100% with you! The Submariner can definitely be considered a "one and done" watch, and will take almost anything you can throw at it in its stride. My older 14060 (my everyday watch) certainly has for more than 28 years now! And I´ve worn it with all manner of attire. Here it is, back in its original old-style box just for the photo. Otherwise always on my wrist...!

Lots of people like them but I like them only on pictures because they don’t feel as solid as the 6 digits and always disappoint me on the wrist.

I gave our oldest son my 116610 and he loves it. It set the standard with the original subs. Tried and true!

Looks fantastic - thin and light is exactly why I'm leaning toward trading my 114060 for a 5-digit.

I’m sure most of us shared the same sentiment. “ One and done.” Then you start slowly collecting them.

Thanks all for the nice comments. As for the date version, I didn't really like it after awhile. Everytime I went to look at the time, I was drawn to the date first which after a while became annoying. Bottom line, I just don't like the cyclops so the no date it is. It is better balanced for me as well. Amazing all my nicer pieces just sit and I settle on this one.

My Y-serial number 14060m has been my one and done for 20 years now! Daily wearer for all occasions.

Good choice. Always felt the Submariner was the perfect all around piece.

I have been patiently waited for the 124060 call for the last eight months.

Hopefully it comes before I start collecting SS.
