Unexplained Rolex Problem, But Self Corrected
Okay here's a weird one. Just after the 5 year warranty period ended a couple of months ago my GMT Batman started to lose exactly 2 hours every other night. That's right, every other night as in 48 hours. Came to notice that every other night around midnight the hour hand would stop moving while the minute hand continued as usual. Come morning my watch would be 2 hours off every other day. I even purchased a watch winder but that made no difference.
For the last couple of months I've simply been living with having to reset the time every other day. I was just putting off sending it in to Rolex to be fixed. Then last month I went on vacation for 3 weeks and not wanting to deal with resetting the watch all the time I left it at home in my safe where of course it stopped running within a day or two from no use or winding. Sure enough after I got home I reset the time and put it back on my watch winder and now it's works perfectly, still keeping my fingers crossed each morning though. One week so far and everything appears to be working fine. Almost as if a total reset corrected the issue. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I even asked a few Rolex dealers while on vacation and they had never heard of a watch losing 2 hours every other night like that. |

Sorry to near about the issue. Even if working perfectly now, I would send it in for service.

That sounds weird that it would do that. Maybe it’s time for a service

I expect Bas (SearChart), will be able to tell you exactly what's been going on.

I agree. Mechanical things don’t tend to “heal” themselves so I’d definitely be getting it looked at.

I would take it to service regardless whether or not the problem went away.

I guess is a problem with the jump hour spring that appeared with calibers 3186 and 3187 and was later solved by Rolex.

Yep, certainly strange. Still keeping time as of tonight though. I agree it probably still needs to be seen by Rolex although I'll keep wearing it for awhile to see if anything changes or how long it takes until it starts missing time again. I only wish this had started before the 5 year warranty was up!
