Icon20 Replacement Warranty Card

We’ve always heard that ADs cannot replace warranty cards because only 1 warranty card is issued per timepiece.

I bought a brand-new DateJust 41 from an AD in Southern California on April 18, 2024. Not sure if the SA is new, but she gave me a call within 3 days of my visit to the store (Ben Bridge). On the date of purchase, she wrote 24/04/18. When I brought it to her attention, she was apologetic and went to the back of the store.

After about 15 minutes, she came back out with a different card with the model number and serial numbers engraved on it, which the correct date written on it. The card looked a little scratched up, like it was sitting on someone’s desk drawer that been moved around with swirl marks.

I wonder if ADs have blank warranty cards sitting around for such occasions.

Seems like a reasonable assumption. Mistakes do happen, so they need a way to correct them.

Here in the UK ,our ADs can reorder the cards if they make mistakes at the time of purchase . But it costs them £150

To clarify ,you can’t just replace a lost card

Mistakes do happen and I guess this helps resolve this.

My son inherited his Grandfather Watch , to find it has the wrong paperwork for the Watch a 1988 BiColour DJ bought new from a UK AD. Only spotted in 2008 .

Only guesswork here, but I'd imagine the new cards need to be paired with the new watch at the point of sale and registration of the purchase. This can possibly only be done at the time of purchase, and not at a later date.

Mistakes happen, so I'm again guessing that a mistake at point of sale can be rectified, as OP is describing here.

The cards have a RFID tag embedded inside of them and I saw my SA use an iPhone to activate the card.

Are you sure it was a new card? Maybe the SA just scratched off the old date and re entered it. That would explain the swirls/scratches!!

+1 It was scrubbed off.

ADs don’t have the equipment on site to simply print out a new card.

All cards are printed at the relevant country’s distributor. In this case, Rolex USA in NY.

This is most probably what happened. Why would they have an extra card just laying around?. Doesn’t make sense. Only issue I see with this is if you ever sell it down the road. Someone might think you changed the date but if you keep a copy of the receipt, you should be good to go.

I agree with these posts. There is a very small chance you will have to present the card to Rolex for warranty service, so the AD just corrected their mistake.

Replacement cards can only be issued by Rolex. If your AD has a stack laying around, that’s a red flag

This is my understanding as well. The card with the error is sent to Rolex (with a fee) and a new card is printed by Rolex and sent back to the dealer. Experienced this a couple times.

A watch I was looking at someone filled in the date as month, day, year, not day, month, year. So there are obv bogus/counterfeit cards out there.

Depends on the country where it was first sold. Day and month are not written everywhere in the same order.
