1969 Rolex 6241 Paul Newman in for repair

I will be frank when I say working on a piece of art such as this watch can be a bit nerve wracking, but on the flip side, such an honor!

Here is a 6241 that was passed down. The owner's goal was to ultimately preserve the character. Although I was able to locate a mint bezel, we ended up keeping the original as it was a part of its history. Clearly you can see where the bezel was hit against a hard item causing it fracture at the 60 mark. At some point in its life, someone had pushed the bezel onto the watch in the wrong location.

After sitting in a drawer for 20 years, it was time to final get her up and running. We focused on the movement and then the external components by replacing the crystal with a NOS low dome, new pushers and casetube/crown. After replacing the old parts, this watch even passed the pressure testing which was a pleasant surprise to me!

I appreciate the owner giving me the opportunity to be a small part of this family heirloom!

Thank you for sharing that exotic dialed PLN resurrection. Love the photo's.

Naturally, I think it's the pinnacle of Rolex iconography and you're at the summit to have brought it back to life.

I'm torn on reacting to the owner's choice of an original, yet damaged insert. But if he was also intent on leaving the bezel damage, then I agree.

It was a tough decision on his behalf as he spent a few days thinking it over. Ultimately, he decided on keeping the original as he never plans on selling or wearing it. It is just a good ol' fashion reminder of what the watch has been through is what I take from it all.

Even with an imperfect dial and bezel, still an incredible piece. Thanks for sharing.

Great to see a resto thread! I'd be torn on the bezel too - difficult one!

Great work Phillip! Always love to see these heirloom watches resurrected. You did my dads (mine for the last 35 years!) ±1973 1675/3 about 3 years ago and I've been wearing it non-stop for the last 30 days. Yes, including sleeping. It's off by -3 seconds over that period!

Yes sir, I do recall working on your dad's GMT! As far as timing, that might just be a fluke
