Call from AD ? Mistake ?

Had a strange call from my AD this afternoon.
I didn't recognise the number that came up on my phone as I didn't have the AD's number saved.I was busy with work and thought it was a colleague that I was expecting a call from.
When I answered and said my name there was a long pause and they seemed a bit perplexed. There was a little bit of stuttering and it was almost as though they had phoned the wrong number. They anounced who they were and stated "We were just checking up on the model that you had requested". When I confirmed the model (No Date Submariner), they said "No problems. Have a nice day and take care".
It has been almost a year since my expression of interest.
Will I be getting another call soon or did they make a mistake and I'm getting my hopes up for no reason ?
Thanks.

Was this an AD in Melbourne by any chance…? I had a very similar experience a week ago.

Thanks for your response. I would prefer not to disclose my exact location. I mean no disrespect. It's just that there may be a lot of Authorised Dealers on this forum and would prefer to keep my location private until my purchase has been confirmed. I know AD's probably get a flood of new buyers every day but I don't want to restrict any chances I may have.

Call from AD ? Mistake ?

Why would you be afraid to discuss your AD? You haven’t said anything negative about them. Now I’m going to sound like Padi. They are just retail stores, where we buy our watches.

I don't have a long history with them so don't have anything good or bad to say at this stage except that so far they have been polite.
If I disclose my exact location they may put 2+2 together and find out exactly who I am. They may get annoyed at me speculating about their business practices on a public forum and strike whatever chances I may have had with them.
I don't want to do anything to jeopardize what limited chances I have.

Magic 8 Ball says you wont get another call soon, your AD already knows who you are and that you’re posting about them on the internet.

Welcome to the Forum.

Not to put a downer on things, but sounds like the latter to be honest. Only time I've had to reconfirm my interest in a watch was when my associate left and my profile got handed to another one.

If it's "your associate" they should already know what you want, so why call to reconfirm?

Having said that though every AD and every sales person is different, so no one could tell you with absolute certainty (including me, despite my personal experiences and having been allocated most of my list in the past few years, in the "current climate" of Rolex).

If they are on this forum and following closely then they already know it’s you

Good luck, I hope you land the Submariner, it’s a great reference

Sounds like an honest mistake. You could ring them and clarify. How can we tell you why they called?

I got a call sort of like that from my AD a bit back:

An SA I didn’t recognize left a voicemail asking “Mr. UnderPolished are you still interested in a Stainless Daytona, please give me a call back”. Sensing something was a not quite right, I called my regular SA and asked what was up. In a tired voice he explained a new hire was tasked with validating and updating the list and their phrasing may have been causing some confusion……

At least I know I’m on “THE LIST”, so there’s that.

Maybe they called the wrong person? Hopefully, you will get the real call soon.

Wait what?

Retail is retail, nothing more?

Kat what about your relationship with your trusted AD? Surely that can’t be minimized or discounted?

My guess is that this is the OP's scenario. SA probably was distracted while making the call (multi-tasking, reading an email, looking at their personal phone while using the AD's phone to make the call, etc.) and thus the awkward pause.
