Day-date advice

I have a really big birthday (70) coming up in 18 months and I’m intending to treat myself to a Day-date but I’m fairly confused on the options. I’ve concluded that I want either yellow gold or rose gold (not interested in WG) but dial colour is stumping me. I did visit my AD and try on the RG with green dial albeit this exhibition model had a diamond bezel, not for me, and the comfort of the bracelet and ‘feel’ of the watch were just what I hoped for.
I’m toying with the green, chocolate or the white dial.
Would folks agree that the white dial looks better on the YG and the other colours on the RG? Any views would be appreciated.

Incidentally I also got to try on the solid gold Deepsea, now I’m a reasonably big guy but this thing felt like a brick on my wrist. Not sure who is going to buy one.

I treated myself to a DD40 for my 50th a little over a year ago and absolutely love it!
I went YG with White Romans as I feel it gives the DD a more casual and sporty look which fits me better. The only DD I would rather have would be the Fluted DD40 Platinum with the Ice Blue dial but my AD said it would be a long wait. If the gray prices ever come closer to MSRP I would seriously consider adding one to my collection.
Go to the Rolex website and look at the various metals and see which dials you like the most.

I have the RG DD40 with the chocolate baguette dial and it's by far my favorite watch

I was in your position deciding which dial in the RG DD40 a couple years ago. I went with chocolate as I feel it works so well with the rose. The green is very popular now, but I remember a few years back when those were not so desired. I am buying a piece like that for the long term and felt that the chocolate would be more timeless. They are all beautiful though!

White dial looks like the dog's bollocks on both YG or RG. For RG, i'd consider the white dial over the chocolate one.

The olive dial is the hot dial right now, but it is not my favorite for the Day Date. In yellow gold, I prefer a white or silver dial (the contrast pops nicely). In rose gold, I prefer the chocolate dial, though I also like a sundust dial as well. I tend to prefer an index dial, but I like what Rolex has done with their Roman dials recently.

Gun to my head, I'd go with a yellow gold, white/Roman dial.

This is the combination IMHO. That just exudes class and will never go out of style.

I like the yellow gold with white dial So classy! The RG is not to my taste. Also, get the 36.

Cheers and welcome (almost) to the club. I got mine at 54 and really love it now. I think they're all epic. I don't love white, I really like the chocolate or eisenkiesel. its a shame you cn't readily see 'em all side by side.

I subsequently got a rose gold Daytona too.

I think the white dial against yellow or rose gold is too much of a stark contrast. Have you gone to the configurator and checked out all of the options?

That's a great word. Stark. Bang on in my opinion. There's way cooler options esp in 36mm.

Happy early 70th! Yellow gold with a white dial is classic and elegant, while rose gold with green or chocolate is modern and rich. It really depends on your personal style. Both combos are fantastic, so you can’t go wrong! Enjoy picking out your perfect Day-Date!

I love the white dial in yellow and rose. For me I'd go white in YG 36mm. Keep trying on different options and see what sings to you.

I am in the same situation albeit for my 50th. I love the YG but its a bit too flashy for me so im currently waiting for a WG model with the blue roman dial.

Of your choices I prefer the classic YG with the white dial.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices, but the one that's got my eye lately is the RG with ombre dial. I believe I would go that way if I was buying one right now.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Much appreciated.
I have tried the configurator and have tried a rose gold version.
I am, currently, leaning towards the classic YG and white dial, as someone else said it’s possibly a bit less formal looking and I’m retired so no dressing up needed.
Hey, who knows what will be released (or discontinued) next year.

I don't know which models of DD are made now, but I prefer the 36mm size and simple stick hour markers on a light coloured dial.

Very classic and classy.

I would say try the different options. Ask your AD when you pop in if they have any of them to try on. The configurator helps to a degree but nothing beats trying a watch on and seeing it in the metal.

There have been watches I thought I loved before trying on and vice versa.

Personally, I would go rose gold with olive and yellow gold with champagne.

I actually think the opposite YG white dial to me is very formal and elegant and looks best when dressed up it's not as casual as the other options
