Recently sold a nice watch and it was a really satisfying experience
I really liked the watch as a fine object. But on the wrist it just wasn’t working for me. This is in fact the second watch I’ve sold in an effort to refine the collection, and in addition recouping the purchase money, it was fun chatting with the buyers about watches, and extra fun that they were so excited to enjoy the new watch glow. Just thought I’d share how, because of the watch nerd community, the selling is (almost) as fun as the buying. Cheers!

How did you find the buyers? Cool to hear about a sale that wasn’t completely transactional.

In both cases it was chrono24. I’ve heard bad things, but really when communicating with buyers you can kinda tell who is serious and also who is real. The fees are lame, but not unreasonable I guess for access to the platform. I was especially happy re this gold JLC, because it was legitimately expensive and not something I thought easy to find a buyer for. But it’s a cool watch and he was really pleased, made me happy to let it go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The watch game can be fun and I always learn a lot about the watches and sometimes about human nature.

I once sold a JLC Master Moon triple date with a black dial, and the buyer was so thrilled that it also felt great to sell. He even reached out to me a year later and told me how much he enjoyed wearing it.

I used to be “new or nothing” when it came to watches. I just liked the peace of mind and experience of buying new.
It was actually selling my first watch that changed my mindset. I bought a new Longines Zulu Time when they first came out. I took some wrist pics of it and wore it to dinner one night. Lovely watch, but didn’t speak to me as I thought it would. I never even took the sticker off the back. I sold it for about $500 bucks less than I paid. Not a big deal, but I was like …”This dude got a brand new watch and is five bills ahead for the next one”. Now, I look exclusively pre owned on brands that traditionally depreciate. |

Great thing about watches is that most people take care of them. This can lead to some terrific buys on watches that depreciate quickly from MSRP which is most of them not named Rolex and select PP’s.
