Offered a Datejust 41 no history

Like the title alludes,

I just moved to a new area checking out watch shops. I’ve been aiming for a Rolex GMT for years now because I’m always on the move for work (so I want to track my home time). My struggle is finding an AD to build a rapport with because I’m moving.

Anyway, I walk in to one yesterday and after 30 minutes of chatting about wanting a GMT with some color to it, she offered me a DJ 41 Grey dial on a jubilee to take home!? She was super nice and even recommended if I want more color I inquire about a Starbucks Submariner as well. The entire experience was mind blowing.

I ended up saying I was very grateful; but wanted to wait for a piece I was eyeing.

Not the experience at Rolex I’ve had the past 2 years. Here’s to hoping for a call for the one we all want. Cheers.

What's a good start, getting offered a watch he doesn't want?

Yes - because for the past 3 years nothing was offered expect maybe a diamond lady DJ.

The AD I bought my BLNR from indicated if i wanted an Expl1 it would be fairly easy to get (sub 3 months) so I do think things are loosening up.

Good on you for declining and not grabbing a DJ just as a means to an end.

I've declined halfway decent offerings in the past as well (thinking it would help get the call for what I really wanted), but it served me no good.

I move around a lot and have the same problem. Pop in as many as you can as you go and keep in touch with them maybe you'll get lucky. I've come to just enjoy the pieces I have and forget about getting a pepsi after all this time waiting.

This is a good AD story, I’m always glad to hear this type of experience. Follow up with this AD and you may get surprised.

Sounds like you moved to the right place. It's good to hear about an AD treating you the right way, and even recommending an LV which is hard to get in it's own right.

I don't know what constitutes "some color to it" Drew, but I think you would really love the BLNR or VTNR. The new gray/black may not be as much to your liking and the BLRO is very hard to get as you know.

Also...

Don't sleep on the Explorer II. Sure, the bezel doesn't rotate but if you are always keeping the GMT hand (or day / night hand in this case) at home time, then it doesn't really matter.

I have a BLNR and as a pilot I never rotate my 24 hour hand unless I'm just playing around with the action. It just stays on UTC with the 24 on the 12.

I hope I see an incoming GMT from you soon my friend!

I have a no date submariner that I absolutely love. If one day I’m offered a GMT, then awesome. I’ll remain patient and hopeful.

I actually inquired about both the VTNR and BLNR! I’m left handed myself, so fingers crossed to that. Being that I already on a sub, I’m staying away from the grey and black (also, call me crazy but I think it’s boring and the hype will die down).

I love the Explorer II for those that can manage its size. The moment they go back to 39mm, I’d make it my daily wear. Shout out to United pilots btw (my airline of choose when bouncing around the globe). BLNR was meant for your wrist and occupation. Thanks for flying well and keeping us safe!

Nobody declines the offer from AD....nobody..you broke the rule..now you shall suffer the eternal wait for that elusive Starbucks
Well played and hope you get that call soon
