Tudor Event in DC yesterday

I attended a Tudor showcase event yesterday at Pentagon City Mall Bucherer / Tourneau AD.

Really great staff at this store. Really well managed by Tiffany and all the SAs are wonderful (special shout out to Kevin).

I’m not a Tudor guy, even though I think they have started making some attractive watches. I think their FXDs and pink chronograph are the pick of the litter.

I got the chance with no pressure to handle these watches and try to bond with them, but it was difficult to get over snowflake hands with round hour plots. Many have gotten past that part and I respect their opinions.

That said, my overarching bias of “no Tudor” was confirmed while handling their new all gold blackbay green dial/bezel model. I unscrewed the crown to see how it felt to wind and the crown came out in my hand. What the heck? I quickly pushed and screwed it back in and left the event.

Sorry, I’ll never buy a Tudor. Good luck to those that do.

That aside, I was there too. Tiffany and her crew were great and the whiskey selection was delightful. I’m generally not a big Tourneau fan, but that location is where I bought my 14060m way back in the day.

I do like Tudor a fair bit and I relieved our hosts of a BB 58 GMT - hadn’t planned to pick anything up, but really dig that watch.

Not disagreeing with our OP’s opinion on Tudor but in fairness, I believe the YG 58 he examined was one of the display models the Tudor rep brought for the event that didn’t have a movement inside it. Still…if the crown fell off, that’s not a great look for Tudor. Yikes.

Like all brands, they make some great watches but just not everyone's taste.

There are some Rolex references I abhor but I'm not going to start a thread about it because others find them very appealing, in some cases their grail. Why would I want to criticize someone else's choices?

Saying others must have "gotten past" design queues you don't happen to find attractive is not what I call respecting their opinion.

Being close-ish, I would’ve loved to be there. As a brand, Tudor excites me more than anyone else currently.

Leaning hard towards the FXD, or Pelagos 39.

Many of us like the snowflake hands as opposed to getting past them. It's just a design element that some like and others do not. I think the snowflake is best appreciated in low light situations and darkness.

For me, the Tudor Pelagos stands above all other Tudor models. It is the ultimate tool watch in every way. It is my go to watch when I am working around the house, going to the beach or travelling and do not want to get noticed. I love the lume on the dial and bezel, which to me stands above all Rolex and other Tudor models and I really love the indentations on the dial which give it so much character. I often catch myself staring at the dial day or night!!

I am a huge Tudor fan but I also like some watches from most brands. I figured out years ago to appreciate people and things for what they are, not what they are not. Tudor has a unique design language and some will not like it. That is OK just like some will. The brand is a quality manufacture and do well at the price point. Is it a Rolex, PP, VC, etc., no it is not. But in some significant ways, it is better and that maybe best left to another thread.

I’ve had three Tudors over the years and the pink chrono has made me ask for another. One think I really like is their experimentation with multiple case materials like their new composite ones. Something Rolex almost never does like their “innovative” titanium cases that other brands have made for years.

Per usual, well said.

I find the snowflake hands very appealing. More a general statement but for some reason watch collectors seem to be very polarized by "if it's not this then I don't like it." The 'mercedes' and snowflake hands can coexist. One doesn't need to choose one over the other. To some, they're both great!

Seems like a fun time. I like the team over at that branch. Also enjoyed when Robin was the manager there.

Tudor’s are great, I was not a big fan until a few years ago I bought one and tried it out and really like the fit and look BB GMT and the Harrod’s BB.

They make a quality watch , while they are not Rolex. For the price you can’t beat the value. Recently they have released some lookers and are going in the right direction.

I would like to attend a Tudor event in the future.
