What to wear in France in the late Fall?

Traveling to Paris, Reims and the Alsace region of France including Strasbourg in the late Fall. Once we land in Paris, all travel will be by train. I have two new GMTs I want to choose from, a Breitling GMT and a Rolex BLNR. Any thoughts as to which one you might feel more safe to wear or is either fine?

Pickpocketing and theft is a thing in Paris. So if it were me I'd go with the Breitling of the two.

I have never had a problem in Paris though it has bad areas exactly like almost every city in the world.

And if the weather is what I think it’ll be, wear whatever you like - I expect short sleeves will be pretty unlikely assuming you mean October or November.

Insure your Rolex and wear it.

Like almost any major city in the world, a few bad people will be looking for easy pickings around stations and tourist hotspots, but keep your head up and you're incredibly unlikely to have any problems.

Sounds like a great trip. Take the watch you will worry about the least and enjoy the trip.

Every watch store I went into in Paris said to avoid wearing nicer pieces, especially if using public transit. I left my gold Daytona back in the room and wore a Yema. I never felt unsafe, but as much as I was warned, I decided to be safe rather than sorry.

You might not have felt unsafe, but I bet your Daytona was terrified!

It was an AirBnB in a quiet area. I took trains from Switzerland to Paris, and it was in a travel pouch in my bag the whole time, so unless someone was just randomly going to break into my room--they wouldn't have known I had a gold Daytona resting peacefully in there.

Fair enough. I was picturing a normal hotel with housekeepers in and out every day and a "safe" for getting all your valuables into one easy place.

1) Either would attract attention in short sleeves in the unlikely event you encounter muggers.

However, in late Fall you ought to be in long sleeves so the question is can you afford the loss of either one if situation 1 occurs?

Clearly the BLNR is riskier. That’s not even a serious question..

But end October/Nov
It’s probably high 50s/low 60s by day and much cooler first thing and in the evening so long sleeves.

Personally, I wouldn’t wear the BLNR to a big European city - and I’m European because when you’re looking lost and getting your bearings you look like a tourist.

But if you’re wearing long sleeves the whole time either will be fine.

Make sure both properly areinsured!

Presumably in autumn you’ll be wearing long sleeves?

I’ve just spent a few days in Rome, followed by a cruise to Athens, Santorini, Naples, Florence, Sicily and Villefranche? Wore my Royal Oak everywhere and never felt it an issue. Admittedly cruise stops were in the day and you could argue were to safe areas. But nights in Rome I felt fine.

Either one. I’ve been all over Paris and other parts of France with a full YG Sub and survived.

I always advise only taking one watch though. The safest place for a watch is on your wrist and I assume you only wear one at a time.

It might depend on what time of the year

Major cities in Europe are gonna be higher risk. the risk may be 2%-3% but it's nonzero, so IMO wear something that is either fully insured or a piece you won't cry about losing

Great info from everyone. We were traveling a lot in Europe before the pandemic and only resumed going to France and Germany two years ago. All the things I see about the pickpockets and targeting tourists makes me slightly more nervous than traveling in the US up and down the east coast where I feel totally at home. Again thanks for the help, and some sarcasm as I always appreciate humor! Definitely will be colder weather so whatever I wear will be tucked up into my coat sleeve!

I personally would pick Breitling GMT out of the two. I almost had my iphone stolen a couple years ago back in paris subway station.
