Luminor Quaranta BiTempo PAM01365 GMT

Does anyone own or have any experience with this 40mm GMT? I tried on the Luminor Mariner the other day and liked it. Of course, it’s hard to know how it will really wear until you’ve had it on all day.

Thoughts on this or any of their similar 40mm references?

Note - it’s been difficult finding out the actual thickness of this watch online. The Panerai website says 5.2mm which must refer to the movement itself.

Personally think the smallest Panerai to be considered is 42mm. The 38 & 40mm stuff I just don’t get

I own a number of 42 and 44mm PAMs and really enjoy them on my 7in wrist.

I picked up the Quaranta a few years back and after the honeymoon, it collected dust. I traded it recently and it is not missed.

My wrist is about 6.70 inches, but I understand the watch is supposed to wear on the big side.

First picture is the 40mm. The second picture is the 44 (I think it’s 44, could be 42.)

the second pic looks like it would work with your wrist. It appears so much larger because it was taken much closer. Id go 42 at the very smallest based on these pics

Agree. Not great pictures, nevertheless, I think you’ve convinced me on 42mm.

Follow up question…

I like (what I think is) the classic style of what I tried on. I’d prefer hand wind.

Any model recommendations?

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the now-discontinued 1535. Here are some (pretty bad) pics of one encounter with it at the Naples PAM boutique a few years back.

At the time, my only reservation was the polished case, but I’m definitely over that. (I ended up grabbing a hand-crank 915 a few years back and its case is polished, yet I love it.)

The 1535 fits my wrist nicely and I like the painted hobnail dial a lot. I bet it’s an absolute strap monster - orange, various blues, brown, black, green, etc.

Also, for comparison purposes, I happen to be rocking my 44mm PAM 1321 today. Brushed 1950s case, polished bezel, 300m WR, PR indicator, and one that quickly grew on me. Great travel watch, even with only two TZs.

PAM 00048. One of my favorite Panerai references!

40mm and 300m WR and a very serviceable movement.

However, what I can say is with your wrist size, 42 is probably a great fit. The curved lugs really make up for the size.

7 inches on the nose.

I was previously opposed to 44mm PAMs, but actually find them a fantastic fit. Wish I’d tried them earlier. My 42mm subs are absolute favorites and fit me perfectly. Either one works for me.

Give all the sizes a try and you may be surprised.

Well, I pulled the trigger yesterday on a brand new PAM01365 40MM.

An extra 2MM might have given it a bit more wrist presence and a slightly more traditional Panerai look, however, when presented with the 40MM I just couldn’t resist. I love the look and wearability.

I found it interesting that, unlike the PAM01535, this 1365 is not, by some definitions, a true GMT. By that I mean, it does not have the jumping hour-hand, rather, the GMT hand and date are adjustable. It also lacks the second-hand reset function and the power reserve meter (which I think is on the back of the 1535.)

None of which were deal killers since, as part of a growing collection, I adjust the date more than I jump the hour hand.

All said, I love the look and feel. It just connects with me.

Plus, as someone that wears a 36mm Datejust one day, a 45mm Seiko 6105-8110 the next, and a 41MM sub inbetween, I wouldn’t rule out picking up a 44MM in the future (as funds replenish.)

The 40mm size was a great choice! It looks fantastic!

I hadn’t heard of this reference before. Interesting that the “GMT” is a 12hr. I’ve never seen that before… very practical for travel between closer time zones.
