Rolex Explorer 2 go back to 40 mm?

I like it in the 42 mm… especially with the white dial. Because of how flat it is, it’s actually not as imposing.

I would appreciate Rolex downsizing the current Explorer from 42 mm to 40 mm. If Rolex were to bring back the 16570 dimensions with an upgraded movement, it would indeed be highly anticipated by fans of the Explorer series.

Rolex is leaving the EXP2 @ 42mm....now what would be nice if they also marketed a 39mm variant of the EXP2....just like they offer 2 sizes for the ExpI....

I don’t mind the 42mm diameter, but would appreciate a narrower bracelet - 20mm is my preferred width, so if they could change that without making the rest of the watch feel unbalanced I don’t mind 42mm.

And/or add a mini glidelock - with my Polar, as it is bigger and heavier than my other watches I prefer to wear it snug so it doesn’t move around too much. The Easylink is helpful, but can sometimes be a bit too much. Being able to fine tune the fit would be nice for everyday comfort.

I personally think it’s nice to have different sizes in the catalogue. The Explorer II is the ultimate Rolex tool watch, the size helps its legibility, everything on this watch is done for a reason. Would be a shame to change it.

I prefer the 42mm Explorer II. When it was 40m it wore too small for my tastes.

Go big or stay home. 42mm Polar is perfect. Now if Rolex released a GMTII in 42mm that would be perfection plus.

seems that the size change at least partially driven by redesign of the movement. Larger power reserve, change in hands and display.

My 16570 works fine for me and I would never pay for the 42 size but the larger hands improve visibility in the dark and the longer reserve is useful to some.

I think Rolex wants to distinguish it from the herd. It’s too big for me but I actually think it’s nice that it’s 42mm because on an average or bigger sized wrist it’s more built for purpose. If you have a 7inch+ wrist it’s fine.

I don’t see Rolex scaling it back anytime soon but the trends do lean in the smaller watch direction.

Yes.....if they made the current E2 at 40mm it would be at the top of my list for my next watch. Would love it with the polar dial and the same orange GMT hand if it was a little smaller.

Don't dismiss it until you tried it on. On the wrist these three feels the same to me, the wider bracelet on the Explorer II is hardly noticeabe.

I love that it's a different size than the GMTII. Very rugged and legible watch to be easily seen in all conditions. Some watch has to be the biggest in the lineup and I'm glad it's the EXPII.

42mm is too much, 40mm will sell better.
btw i noticed that almost all of these "What if Rolex release a " threads are posted by new members or members with low post count, and this makes me suspicious that this the Rolex R&D team doing their job by checking the customers' opinions and meeting what the majority wants.
