Sub date vs no-date

Hi guys. Looking for some help. I have no need for a date on my watch so just asking purely on esthetics and resale is not important. Which do you prefer, Sub date or no-date? I’m having a hard time decided and curious to hear some different lines of reasoning. Thanks!

No date, just because I don't like the cyclops. If the Sub date was like the Sea Dweller I'm all in but still, when I look at my calendar in the morning, I can remember what day it is all day long.

No Date, because of clean look, the original, I was always a fan of date but lately I’ve been leaning towards the no date model.

I had a no date and the dial is very clean and symmetrical. You also dont have to worry about AM/PM. However I did miss the date window so I went back to the cyclops.

There is no wrong choice, however, the Sub is the original and stayed true to it's looks/function for the longest time of any model. The Sub Date is fine, but it doesn't have that clean look of an original Sub.

1 Rolex watch - sub date. 2 + Rolex watches - sub and others with the cyclops date. Gotta have at least one with the cyclops, it is what makes Rolex iconic.

Almost completely agree!

I had the choice and went with the date as my first luxury piece. Of course I thought it would be my only but I have added an Explorer and I think Sub Date + Explorer is the perfect 2 Rolex collection.

I ended up covering my desire for a non date diver with a couple BB58’s!

If we're talking about stainless steel, black dial Submariners, I prefer it without a date.

If we're talking about a blue dial, town-tone Submariner (126613LB), then that's a different story altoghter. I'd love one of those. That might be my next watch, and that comes with a date...

The clean look without the date is so very nice. Not that it makes much difference, but that watch at night it lume perfection. Don’t know if it’s true, but it’s been said that the no date to date ratio is about 1:10.

The No Date for me.
I like the symmetri, it is easier to read.
It just looks perfect.
It is also a bit less ”obvious” as cyclops = Rolex.

Don't care for dial symmetry and blah blah blah.

I've NEVER owned any watches without a date. I'm getting old so not good at remembering date. One glance at a watch is good enough for me.

Plus the Rolex icon is the cyclops date that makes it stand out from the pack.

Get whatever ya like....and don't look for "opinions". Same reason why I'll never own a daytona or a speedy cos they both don't have date.

Imo, date and gmt are probably the most practical complications on a wrist watch. I own sub date and have never used the dive bezel (for the grill, I just use the timer on my iphone). But for travels, the date and gmt on my Panerai is super handy right at a glance.

If wear multiple watches per week and the power runs dry between wears then a date quickly becomes the most annoying and inconvenient complication to to own. I strongly prefer no date on all my watches, the cyclops is so ugly. A Sky Dweller would look so much better without the cyclops.

No date is a classic. Kept what you have unless it’s that important to have a date. I personally prefer the no date and rarely see them compared to the date sub.

You got this wrong

The term Sub is used for the no ND version (OG), and then you have the Sub Date.

I think the sub looks better - so simple and clean.

But… for me, it depends what the watch is for. If it’s a daily wearer, I probably use the date as much as I use the time as I double check it every time I sign something or check expiry date of milk in the supermarket or whatever.

So sub in a collection or sub date for daily wear/ only watch.
