Should I sell my collection and get a GRAIL > $50k?
I'm curious to get others opinions on this... I love the idea of a land, air and sea collection, or better yet even more robust, BUT...
I'm been scratching my head over selling my Pepsi, Starbucks and Daytona and getting "my" ultimate grail watch, a white gold Pepsi Meteorite and it would become my daily driver and a single watch collection. Thoughts or is this crazy idea? I wouldn't be able to procure a Meteorite while keeping the others. |

It’s not different enough in my opinion, would not do that.

A grail could mean a lot of things including great sacrifices! I do not think that it is a crazy idea at all but it is also not something that I move forward with.
I like to have a little variety and options. My grail is a Day-Date but it isn't something that I could wear everywhere.

Don’t do it.
Those three watches provide such a good rotation. And although I absolutely love the meteorite dial, and I want to have it in my collection one day, I definitely would not go from 3 great watches to only 1. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Easy decision. The answer is yes. Do it. It’s a go anywhere do anything watch you don’t need anything else.

I don’t believe in grail watches. Once you own the GMT and it becomes old habit, that’s all you’ve got. The grail is always shifting IMHO.
I’d keep your three, but that’s just my opinion |

Now that I have multiple watches, I couldn’t go down to one watch. Keep the trio.

If you haven't, I would get a chance to hold and wear it in person before doing a 3 for 1 deal.
I was not very impressed by seeing it in person. While the meteorite dial looks amazing, I don't think it works with a ceramic blue and red bezel. Plus, the hands get lost in the dial. If you want this to be a daily driver and be able to tell the time, it's not a great choice. |

I own a Pepsi and a Daytona, and also owned the meteorite Pepsi.
I sold the latter (and bought an ALS Time Zone) as I much prefer the steel version. Personal taste of course. |

I don't care about land, sea, air like many do but I would rather have those three over one PM.
Why not? You obviously have money in order to own what you have. Do what most people do and save up. It may take a year or three but you will get there. |

There are definitely ways to optimize your collection. It really depends on your budget, lifestyle, where and when do you go, etc.
I think having 3-5 watch collection is ideal since I am sure every member of this forum has more than 1 watch they like. And when you have watches on rotation it almost feels like you get a new watch every week (or whatever rotation period is) and you get to appreciate them more. I feel that if you always wear one watch you become less excited about it. (same happens with other things in life too, like women for example :D ) |

I really appreciate the feedback all! Everyone made some great points and I'm leaning towards keeping the trio... worked hard to get them and I do like a small rotation. :)

I agree with Brian. I suspect you would regret the decision and you may wait a long time and spend a lot of money to recreate what you have. I would discourage you from doing this. A number of people on this forum have done it and been happy but more members have experienced regret at letting hard to acquire pieces go.

No way. That is a horrible trade. Maybe give up one (BLRO) of yours for the GMT but all of them doesn’t make any sense.

I’m all about consolidation with an upgrade but you’d need a beater as a minimum to make that move. Like a no date sub, or explorer 1 etc. you happen to have 3 great ss pieces so I’d hold and try for a day date to complete the 4 must own Rolex for ME
Btw, I had a hard time reading the time on the meteorite so I moved it on….. |

I say if it makes you happy....do it.
I just recently sold off 4 pieces (rolex/2 Omega/Panerai) shrinking my collection from 8 to 4 so that I could fund the purchase of 1 watch I really want to add. Watch collecting is supposed to fun to me and having watches going in and out of the collection is fun for me. All 4 I sold were atleast 4yrs old so I spent plenty of time enjoying them. |

Would stick w what u have.
The grail is hardly ever the endgame. If you must, then find a ways to get what you want while keeping the others so after 6 months you can reevaluate your selection while not taking a hit on the trade ins and possible repurchase.

Totally agree with this. I also think the Pepsi with that dial combo is not worth the money. It washes out.

If you REALLY want the Meteorite GMT, save up to add it and then figure out what you keep and if necessary, what you sell.
Otherwise, pick one (maybe two) of your current three and trade towards the meteorite. If the BLRO you currently have is on Oyster, then that would definitely be one I’d trade towards the meteorite. If it’s on jubilee, I’d be hard pressed to let it go, even though there is some overlap.

I wouldn't do that. Your trio is ideal. I think once you had the Meteorite, you'd miss having the options you're used to.

Let’s take a step back: From the out side looking in, its a lot of money for the same watch with the same workhorse movement in a more expensive candy shell. The idea of giving up a Daytona 4130 movement is insane to put in the trade.

Having just one watch wearing it day in day out is a wonderful idea but you need something to keep it special so maybe a simple Seiko or equivalent to have as a back up, for those occasions where you want to wear a watch but the Meteorite is so wrong for the occasion. Go for it and enjoy your grail watch.

I think the sweet spot for Rolex in terms of value (if I can call it that) is the stainless steel models and you have three great ones. I’d struggle to trade 3 great watches for 1 great watch.
I am a fan of wearing watches whenever and wherever but I think $50k of gold Rolex on my wrist daily would probably go past my threshold for feeling comfortable as well. |

I wouldn't
I would probably look to sell the gmt and get the WG meteorite I've never had a grail watch. This journey is a constant evolution for me. |
