My first Patek was a 5164a and I waited roughly 1.5 years for it, no other purchases at the AD. This was 2019.

Chris Hall at The Fourth Wheel purportedly has seen press images of the Cubitis and he believes we will be looking at “Code 11.59 levels of enthusiasm.” Leaks will be coming before too long methinks.

I assume that means limited to no enthusiasm?

Would be so weird if that Nautilus-like green rectangular dial he is probably referring to actually was real. I can't imagine it but obviously could be very wrong.

To be fair the Aquanaut and the Nautilus were both unpopular for a very long time. Wouldn’t be surprised if these pick up steam over time.

That's what I was going to say @WatchEater666.

Many novelties got a cold welcome with very assertive opinions ("not the brand's DNA") that people have changed further down the road (the Nautilus being the most famous example but also the first days of the 5070, the 5975, the 5320G Creme, the 5212A, the 5226/5326 more recently). Same with the first days of the 5711 and 5976 Anniversary or the 5650.

Social media live from buzz and will have to over react.

To be successful the day it is unveiled it has to be similar to what exists (like for cars). I never liked the ROO but it is successful and that's perfect to me.

It's a great idea to have alternatives to Calatrava's.

The July 2024 Hodinkee podcast on Calatrava's was pretty disparaging, basically calling them boring watches, and justifying it with the overall market demand and pricing (apart from a few specific models). If I want to cash out my Calatrava it's going to pay out about 65% of what I paid. -Good thing I enjoy wearing mine!

Still...it's not like you can buy one Calatrava or one Cubitus and then expect to have a 5167A ready for you any time soon for $24,750 USD.

I’d be more excited about a new calatrava or perpetual calendar chrono :) honestly I’m more into vintage these days. Patek retail is overpriced and not very inspiring.

Surely it can't be the same dial pattern of the nautilus that has been 'leaked' in a square case shape. These 'influencers' are just writing rubbish for clicks.
This is Patek Philippe we're talking about here, not Studio Underdog or Baltic. Surely they aren't just going to recycle their dials into a new watch.

I mean calatravas are dress watches not sure how exciting you want to make them. Outside of covid mania they always were soft in the secondary.

40k for the 6007g is kind of ridiculous however. I do wonder if Patek will revise pricing downward in the future.

There's no way a brand like Patek would go backwards on price. They perhaps wouldn't go upward for a long time, but it would be a very bad signal to revise lower.

As a fan of the brand who watches MSRP go further and further out of reach, I would love to see it nonetheless!

AP keeps clinging to this rhetoric, yet the reality is that the code has not met expectations at best and damaged the brand at worst.

They did go back on prices around 2014 or 2015. Many brands did a price decrease at that time. Dropped 5167a from $20.3 to 18.9 and 5711 from $26.7 to 24.8. was mad because I picked up the 5167a literally a few weeks earlier. They told me meh, we would given it for 15% off instead of 20% so it's a wash. When AP did it, TRF declared the trust in the brand was dead and over, and somehow so few even remember. Jaeger did a big drop, my chest hurt since my wife got me a jubilee platinum that got adjusted lower somewhere around 15 or 20%.....

I mean that's about 12% more than a gold AP code 3 hander. Patek always had a premium like that over AP across the line, so it's in line with brands. The whole market needs a reset like 2014/2015

Market is resetting as we speak.Bid side prices are not that far from MSRP on hype watches and way thru MSRP on the rest. The bid side on 6007 would be mid 20s if u try to sell.

Asking prices offer wide bid/ask margin which will close towards bid levels unless we see new level of interest in watches.

Ok. I am just going to put it out there (my speculative fantasy fun guess).

The new range will be a divers watch which looks big and sporty and will be a “basic” watch. Just like how customers buy a Royal Oak offshore as a first step to getting a Royal Oak. This new watch will be Patek’s ROO.

It may look bad. It may look ugly. Most of us will hate it. Many of us will buy it (to later get a nautilus). Some models will have diamond bezel, purchase that and u will instantly be promoted to the league of shadows.

There. I am right until I am wrong on the day of the release.

Gotta love Patek. Hey drop $30-40k+ on our new latest entry level line, so that you can queue up to buy the $25k entry level steel Aquanaut..

Before it was you need to buy complication pieces (5205, 5905 etc) to get entry level, now it will be you need to buy the new entry level to get the old entry level

Regarding high prices, I remember around 2014-2015, prices had already gone up a little (especially since 2010 or so) and then came the European debt crisis. T. Stern said it was unlucky as they just unveiled (2015) their new 500M CHF building project (delivered in 2020), exactly like his father faced long ago when they made the previous building in the late 1990's. I remember we talked about the prices being too high and people discussing MSRP would have to be lowered, etc... (@dchang81, I wonder if the decrease in MSRP you mentioned wasn't only in the us, because of the USD/CHF trend. I don't remember any decrease in France, Germany or UK).

Finally, we know what happened, it was just a parenthesis and prices climbed again (even before covid). They used to play with the volumes, the materials (steal) during downturns but didn't decrease prices in Western Europe AFAIK.
