Third Party Servicing Recommendations for 116500 Daytona
Hello all,
I have a 116500LN that I bought from a sponsor here on this site in 2020 which has unfortunately had many continued issues. I have sent it in for service with the official Rolex service centers totaling about a year worth of time in service, and it is still having major issues. Current issue is, if I leave the chrono running, it will only have about 1 hour of power reserve and the rotor is grinding very audibly when it rotates. You can read more about my saga here if interested: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=921966 My 5 yr warranty expired a short time ago. Very long story short - I would like recommendations for a third party watchmaker that is reliable, careful, and pays attention to detail to fix the watch at my expense. The watch is sentimental to me and I would like to pass it to my kids one day so I don't mind the cost, just want to fixed right, without taking months on end. Can anyone make some recommendations for a watchmaker they trust to repair the watch with OEM components? Located in Seattle WA USA. Thanks in advance |

Sorry to hear your continued troubles with the Daytona. I am surpised RSC could not sort it - I presume it was sent to Dallas or NY, more than once based on your description?
Watching for any suggestions as I am in the area as well. |

Well even today many Rolex authorized service centres cannot service watches like the Daytona as they are normally RSC service only unless it's changed recently.

I’d send it back to RSC with all previous documentation and issues and demand a new movement be put in watch. Seems like you got a lemon. It happens.

I would send it back to the RSC and let them sort it out. Upon return, I would trade it for a similar model even if it cost me a bit. No reason to keep a watch with issues and as far as passing it on why leave your children a watch that has issues? They may not have the passion you have for the watch and a non functioning watch will not get much wear. I find it hard to believe RSC has not sorted this out.

Personally I’d send it back to RSC with details and let them sort it

If it was me, I would personally fly to NYC and walk into the RSC there and discuss it with them. I would bet they would rectify in short order. I have been there in person multiple times and they are absolutely top notch. With as much as you have spent in time alone on this, you can easily justify a plane ticket, while you're there have a nice steak at the Old Homestead and call it a win/win.
Heck, if you aren't able to, I'll take it up there for you. |

I too would send it back with a VERY precise list of exactly what the issue you have and HOW to duplicate this problem. You shouldn’t have to repair on your own when there has been ongoing and documented problems.

The problem you'll face is finding an indie watchmaker who is certified on the Daytona and also has a Rolex parts account.
The symptoms you mentioned may stem from not replacing the auto-wind module during the previous service. I tend to agree that the RSC is the best path. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Rikki is very well respected and used by many of us on TRF. Outstanding service.
