WG Blue dial would be my choice. Could be a one and done!

The 116508 green dial is a stunning piece, however it not worth $70K in my opinion or $150K during Covid at a reasonable price I would consider it.
The 116509 blue dial is also beautiful not as flashy. The meteorite is the dial in the 11 series is my favorite.

Buy, what you like and will enjoy.

The VC in the green dial is amazing.

Cheers,

Above $50K it is PP or VC territory for me. Under $50K I am on the forever waitlist on dark dial YG Daytona on OF. I am hopeful that I will get a call on that one day

Thx for all the input.

I think it really helped flesh out what I wanted.

Only one person suggested the Paul Newman but I think that's what I'm going with.

I talked to my guy and he said there were 200 Mayers for sale. Maybe 50 are duplicates. In his opinion, which I trust a lot, the green dial just isn't worth the extra 30K. He fears that the prices will continue to slide and that will leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I've always paid up for the "best" in real estate or other investments. Strangely, the higher price was part of the appeal. Gotta stop doing that when things aren't truly an investment.

The Newman sells around retail and should hold its value better ... plus, I really do like that watch.

The WG/blue dial is too close to the Panda and more difficult to read. (Eyesight isn't what it used to be.)

Thx again for all the input.

I love that reference. Wei Koh of Revolution wears as a daily and did a really great write up a while back in the magazine. https://revolutionwatch.com/the-role...th-green-dial/

The JM is worth the hype in my opinion. Stunning piece in person and should hold its value in the years to come.

Too green and the wrong shade for my tastes. Also, too expensive in the secondary market even with the correction. So, not for me.

Here is my "guys" latest comments summarized:

- Newman best of the gold Daytonas
- special enough that it can only appreciate
- tasteful, classic
- puts me ahead of the trend

I do really love the green dials. But, I have a Hulk and I find I'm not wearing it much. I'm attracted to contrast and color ... my collection looks too much like a box of Fruit Loops.

I see a Mayer for sale in the classifieds for what looks like a very competitive price. Tempting, but I'm going to stick with the Newman.

It's all about the vibe you're after, as well as the niche the watch fills in your collection.

Our opinions aren't going to help you with either, sadly. Good luck,

“Newman” (I guess the modern iteration) as “the best of gold Daytonas” is imho contentious. The JM is the only Daytona ever made in green, has received a lot of attention/praise by watch enthusiasts, although its price has decreased it still trades at double retail. If you decided that you don’t like green anymore and/or that it’s too much money at grey prices it’s fine but I don’t buy the story that a modern “Newman” will be a better investment not that it will be more iconic than a JM. I own a JM and a Hulk so I’m maybe biased towards green;)

I think it's the best green dial Rolex has ever made. I wish I could swap my 116508 dial into it so badly!

I think he's the best lead guitarist in the post-Jerry era. His voice and phrasing, his guitar tone and style, are different and unique.

JM is a nice looking watch but overhyped (moreso than the "regular" daytona hype).

The 116509 blue dial is the real treasure here!

Personally have never been a big fan of this reference, but it is very striking! I prefer the blue dial.

Always buy what you want and can afford even if it cost more…

I have bought a second choice because what i really wanted was more money. This thought has cost me so much more money in the long run. Hope this helps

Love the John Mayer watch.

He dated Jenifer Anniston huh huh

I mean no offense but are you buying the watch you want or letting your "guy" sell you what he wants to?

Beautiful watch and not as loud as you may think. From even a short distance (especially inside or low light) the dial looks pretty dark. Can easily look black.

I would never pay its grey price though, but I also prefer the PN dial.
