My platinum DD did the trick for me. Now I'm sick and it's time to unload it so my wife doesn't get stuck with it.

My AD was closed recently, and "starting over" at a different AD is unimaginable. My next watch will be the JLC Polaris Geographic |

Started in 1994 with a 14060 and finished in 2011 with my Hulk. I bought eight watches from just two ADs. Since 2020 they couldn’t get me any new watches, so I basically finished my new Rolex journey there. However, I started my vintage Rolex journey in 2022.

Mine has been over for a bit now. I still love the one I have. Started out many years ago with my first Sub, then tried a DJ for a bit, and now I have the Exp II. The journey stopped for me because at some point walking into an AD was no longer the experience as a customer of a higher end watch experience. It turned into the AD game everyone complains about, I dont enjoy Rolex that much nor have the patience for that. Once that ends I may start looking at newer models again, but for now I have started a new journey into micro brands or other brands that are more readily available.

I don’t think the watch journey ever really ends. What I’ve learned over the years is that it just keeps evolving. Back when I was younger, my dream was to own a SS Daytona, but like a lot of folks, I had to settle for a two-tone Sub because I didn’t have the funds—and let’s be honest, SS Daytonas were impossible to find even back in the late ‘80s anyway. Grey dealers weren’t really a thing either, this was way back when the internet was just starting to take off—Google wasn’t even a thing yet!
In 1994, I gave up hope on the SS Daytona from an AD so I finally sold my TT Sub and upgraded to a brand-new TT Daytona with a white dial. That was my only watch until 2004, and I wore it non-stop. Since then, though, I’ve lost track of how many watches have come and gone from my collection. I’ve done some pretty wild consolidations too. After +30 years in the hobby, and having owned pretty much every professional reference out there, I’ve gravitated towards a Platinum Day-Date and a handful of professional models. I used to be all about the professional series, but now I’ve branched out into AP and Patek, while keeping some Panerai and Cartier pieces as more casual, summer beaters. Right now, I’m only on the waitlist for two pieces at Rolex: a white gold Daytona on Oysterflex (never had one before) and the new yellow gold Sky-Dweller on Jubilee. We’ll see how that goes. Now that I’m in my 50s, I’ve come to appreciate the journey itself more than anything. I’ve had almost every modern professional reference over the past decade including white & black ceramic Daytona’s, BLNR, BLRO, CHNR, Blue dial SkyD, etc, but have ended up with neovintage since I find them more sophisticated and historically relevant, primarily aligned to my youth. I’ve held on to what I consider those iconic pieces—my BLRO, a Zenith Daytona in SS, another Zenith Daytona in TT (yep, the same one from 1994!), YM II WG, and two neo-vintage Subs. I think a lot of us eventually gravitate towards a Day-Date. Funny enough, if you’d asked me 10 years ago if I’d ever own one, I probably would’ve laughed and said, ‘That’s an old man’s watch!’ Well, I guess I’m officially an old man now, lol.

I've been pining away from this very question for a few months now; without getting into it, either 2025 with an LV, or if not then I'll unknowingly have been done since 2023.
Rolex journey. Watch journey? Not until I acquire my 'grail', which may actually never happen. Last edited by kritameth; Today at 08:02 AM.. Reason: Clarification. |

I will never be finished. But I might have periods of dormancy through the years.
