Been offer a caliber 321
Been offer a steel caliber 321.
To be honest, I not huge on the band but the history that came along with it is pretty special. The steel caliber 321 would be the last speedmaster I would get if I pull this off. The question is, is it worth the huge price tag? Will it hold value in the long run? Any chance it goes discontinued? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's a lovely model and the open caseback showcases the movement wonderfully. To me though it still looks like a standard Speedy and I doubt it will turn out to be an investment piece as Omega will always be making iterations of the Speedmaster of one type or another IMO.

I love the model and I do think it's a special piece. I'd buy it if money wasn't an issue. I also do think it's worth the price. But of course you'll have to decide for yourself if you wanna pay that kind of cash for it. I love the idea that each piece is put together by one single watchmaker from start to finish.

I compared the 321 to the regular SMP. Looks the same…. Double the price…. Was hoping to hear that the steel 321 will hold its value like all the Rolex sports model I gotten in the past. I had a previous gen SMP once I was offered a break even price. Same for my Tudor GMT…. I don’t want any piece that will lose significant value like a regular SMP…. Sounds like you should avoid this spectacular piece. Too many unknowns on future value

I admire the watch but don't think the price is justified for what it is. I own a regular Speedmaster, 1861, and it scratches the Speedmaster itch just fine for 10k-12 less. I would pass.

The price has held to retail or above for the last few years so I don't think it will come down much - and of course if it's discontinued it will go higher

I think you should try it on first before making a decision.
If you're strongly concerned about it dipping in value over time, I would pass on it (as it has and likely will continue to). |

I think with Speedmasters Omega are always doing variations on the central theme of events 50 years ago. Even if they discontinue this model there will be another special edition/variation to come which keep prices suppressed in the second hand market

If the latter, there are better returns to be had on the stock market... or just buying bullion. If you're buying it because you're fond of the watch, the 'huge price tag' will quickly fade from mind as you enjoy the watch on your wrist for years to come. |

Will it hold value? It probably will but no one can predict the future. Any chance it gets discontinued? Eventually all references get discontinued and replaced. |

If future value retention is of high importance to you, this would not be the one I'd look at. If you love the 321 movement (like I do), it's a fantastic Speedy.

I bought a 3861 before I knew anything about watches, but after some research, I decided I wanted the 321 all along. Was finally offered one at retail and bought it with no regrets. It is definitely a IYKYK watch. If you don’t know, a 3861 is all you need.

This is a nerd’s watch, Omega watch nerds love it. The movement, though it looks wonderful, it is no where near as high performance as the 3861. If you’re just going to wear it and beat up on the watch, the standard moonwatch is a much better option in my opinion. If you’re going take a lot of pride and joy in the fact that this is a special hand made piece from Omega then sure go for it.
Just from the way you’ve asked the question I feel like this isn’t the watch for you. It certainly holds value better than a normal moonwatch as the quantities are so low but I wouldn’t bank on it spiking in value. |

These are very good feedback folks!
I did try on the steel caliber 321. Looks very similar to the current SMP beside the band. The caliber looks cool. Ya, I am of the mindset of buying expensive toys of it holds value. Was hoping this variant of speedmaster can do this. Looks like is a coin toss! Don’t get me wrong, I love to own another speedmaster and have it forever. Hoping this variant is the one. If buying a watch, or any other luxury item has to pass a value-retention litmus test, then may I respectively suggest it's not for you.

I would purchase it if your given the opportunity, I’ve been wanting one for several years & picked one up last summer. Wears so comfortably too.

Definitely get it, wear it for a year and flip it for a profit.
That's what you wanted to hear right? |

Might as well just get the standard SMP and save the huge upfront cost of a 321 variant….

What makes the 321 unique is each movement is handmade with one watchmaker from start to finish. It will never be a high volume watch.
