I purchased a New Daytona from a grey dealer still had factory stickers.
I’ve had the watch since January it has kept impeccable time until yesterday.
It is currently adding 7 seconds a minute. Bob’s watches is offering to look at I’d prefer to through Rolex. Is it possible to have warranty work done through Rolex without a full factory service? If Bobs opens up the watch does this void the warranty? Thank you in advance for your answers and advice.

If warranty work is done by Rolex at one of their own service centres it is basically up to them what work they do to rectify the watch.

It may just need de-magnetising (takes less than 2 mins) or may need a full strip down.

Until they look at the watch they wont know whats wanted.

Giving the watch to a NON-APPROVED watch repair company or person does void the warranty. Don’t do it !!!

You are far better off first testing for magnetism … Any watchmaker or Rolex AD will do that in a few seconds. If you have a compass you can do it yourself.

De-magnetising … Its a DIY job if you want and your warranty will be fine. You do NOT open the watch for that. Its a simple process and the tool needed costs a very few dollars..

Quick update took my Daytona to the AD wasn’t magnetized. Watchmaker said the “hairspring” had jumped and that this is somewhat common with the new 4131 caliber?

Haven’t heard or read anything about this elsewhere.

Thats the first report i have seen of a “Jumping” within a 4131.

The 4131 is NOT that new. It was introduced in 2023.

The 4131 is just an improved version of the 4130 with things like now having a Chronergy escapement, optimized ball bearings and Paraflex shock absorbers.

None of those things would make a spring “Jump”.

What is a “Jump” anyway ?

Did the watchmaker open up your watch ? Did he fix it there and then ?

Here in the UK Daytona’s are NOT usually worked on by the watchmaker at an AD … They get sent back to the Rolex Service Centre.

Yes they fixed it there took maybe 15 minutes. I did not get a chance to ask the watchmaker. Just the floor salesperson that greeted me in the store. Wish I would have asked more questions. I was just ecstatic that it didn’t need to shipped off for repairs.

That was a fast repair.

IMHO … TOO FAST !

If they opened the watch up I hope they did a full pressure test after they closed the watch.

Did they use a new gasket ?

Were they an OFFICIAL Rolex AD ? or was this your grey dealer ?

I know Rolex make watches that are waterproof and you can safely swim or scuba dive with the fish but this repair sounds very fishy to me !

Please be VERY wary of the seals on your watch. have them cheched at a Rolex AD who has an onsite watchmaker … The problem there is that not many do nowadays.

Yes it was a Rolex AD I bought my first GMT from them in 2000 have purchased and had serviced all of my watches there. I went grey because I’d like to enjoy a Daytona in my lifetime. The Rolex dealer definitely has a watchmaker onsite.

I am surprised the watchmaker did something if at a Rolex AD. I've always been told that any warranty repair will go to Rolex, regardless of how simple it is.

Your hairspring got "caught" and will happen again if your watchmaker did not update your balance bridge.

I called the Rolex AD and spoke with a watchmaker (the actual watchmaker who serviced my watch was off today). He confirmed that there’s no way they would have opened the case back and adjusted the hairspring—it would’ve required them to keep the watch for several days. He’s confident the issue was due to magnetization. The watchmaker who worked on it will be in tomorrow, and if that’s not the case, he’ll call me and explain what actually happened.

The original information I received was relayed through a salesperson. Sounds like a misunderstanding. And miscommunication.

I know the AD in my town does warranty repairs locally. I think it's fairly common, actually.
