A little delayed, but finally on my wrist

For some months now, I had been considering getting a 5960A -- one that I could wear as a reasonable daily, that was comfortable and understated. As luck would have it, the particular watch I had set me sights on was unfortunately sold. That left the door open for other options and this 3940 just surfaced and well, you know how the rest goes.

To be honest, I'm surprised I went with yet another perpetual calendar, as I thought I had ticked that box with my birth year VC 43031 already. In any case, I plan to enjoy this for a week or two at least. Day 1 starts now...

As a 5960/1A owner IMHO the bracelet is not under the radar at all.

Both are lovely watches. I love the strap on the 3940. Goes so well with yellow gold.

Congrats Won for the new acquisition. I remember your post on the VC. How do the 2 perpetual calendar compare? I think there’s room for multiple calendar watch in a collection. I have 2 - one PP AC and a VC complete calendar, but haven’t moved up to PC, yet. Looking forward to you feedback once you have some time with the 3940.

Thank you all for the kind comments. It is Day 4 and I've managed to strap this on every morning :-)

You're definitely not wrong -- but it is incredibly comfortable, and hides easily under a cuff (for me, on days when I'm in the office, can work well).

I was surprised too, how well it worked. Took a chance to order before the watch arrived; and have not seen many great strap combinations for the 3940, so I'm happy with my result :-)

Great question! Although both are 36mm and YG, I find the look, feel, and wear entirely different from one another.

The VC has a more elegant, artisanal case, slim long lugs and, when paired with the dore dial, make it wear like a very vintage piece. The PP in comparison feels more modern, wears sportier, and aesthetically to me at least, has a cleaner dial (3 subdials on PP vs 4 subdials on VC). The 3940 has a very well balanced dial, and although there's more clutter on the VC, the moonphase disc, under sunlight, shows the lovely lapiz disc in a beautiful manner. The moonphase disc on the PP is not bad, the VC is just better imo. If only PP had recessed the pushers into the case (like the VC), it would have taken the definitive win.

At least from adjustments, the winding of crown is smoother, setting of time is more pleasant and the "feel" of the pushers when being depressed (for calendar adjustments) feels crisper in the VC than on the PP. But the PP has an edge with the 240Q: nice micro rotor and a view of the movement on the caseback, which the VC does not. I do remember you could purchase a sapphire caseback as an option from VC, but I also remember the view of the 43031 is not as lovely as 3940 from the caseback.

On the wrist, the PP wears more like a daily watch whilst the VC wears like an occasion. Perhaps this could be from the romantic idea of the "birth year" VC which I admit just gives me a nice, fuzzy feeling. I bought the VC with my heart and the PP with my head.

I would have a tough time picking between the Patek and the VC. Both are so beautiful and different.

They are indeed different and beautiful in their own ways. After 10 days on the wrist, I certainly feel the PP is more okay to be worn daily, than the VC. Of course, the condition is also less pristine than the VC, and the reason why I would want to preserve my VC more. But wearing a perpetual calendar Patek daily... that's no bad thing, I think

Isn't it hard to read the month on the VC?
