GMT vs. SUB vs. YM

I am looking at the list price diference between the GMT, SUB and YM at the TT and YG series and what I see doesnt make sense unless I am missing something.
.............TT...............YG
GMT......$7025..........$19750
SUB.......$7825..........$23100
YM........$8675..........$22550

The TT SUB is more expensive than the GMT most probably because of the depth rating and the TT YM is more expensive than the TT SUB probably because of the bezel. Kind of makes sense.

If we accept the above as correct then why the YG SUB is more expensive than the YG YM? Is it because of the extra links? The bezel of the TT SUB appears to be the same as the bezel of the YG SUB. The main differences between the YG SUB and YM are the bezel, the extra links and the depth rating. With the SS case, the price of the YM bezel shadowed the cumulative prices of the extra TT SUB links and the higher depth rating. This is not so with the YG series where the extra links and the depth rating with the 18k case (softer metal; more difficult to waterproof?) seem to take precedense.

Good point, Pete. Well, the difference between the all gold Sub and YM seems pretty insignificant (only $550), so I guess the extra price on the Sub lies in the extra solid gold links which would probably weigh more than the all gold bezel of the YM.

This is only conjecture on my part. The other reason could be the fact that the Sub is rated at 300 m and is, in fact, a professional dive watch.

Cheers - JJ

JJ, if you happen to know... is the base of the TT SUB bezel (the part that is left when you remove the blue cover) made of 18k gold?

If it is, the pricing is not consistent between the SUB and YM TT and YG lines. Either the TT YM is overpriced or the YG SUB is overpriced.

The bezel on the TT is 18ct gold.

Or just greed on Rolex part, I am sure they sell more Subs, than YM, all precious metal watches, in reality, are not good value for money,

Yes, the base of the Sub bezel is solid 18 K gold.

Padi has it pat on the button. Sub is a much faster seller than the YM...so Rolex can do whatever the hell they want to with the pricing!!
