New Rolex
Well, finally bought a Rolex. Got the Sub No Date. $3400 from Dicksons AD, located in the Pennisula Hotel in Hong Kong. Was shopping in the Book store next and ended up buying Vintage Sport Rolexes Book. Very nice book with many color photos. The Sub No Date is very nice. D series.
Thinking of buying a Rolex Explorer 1 today as well. They are going for $3200. Wil sell my Omega. Keep the 2 Rolex watches. Good to have 2 watches, one for back up incase the other goes wrong. Lke the history and simplicity of the Sub ND and the Exp 1. Have had some problmes with my Omega after only 2.5 years wear. Wearing eeryday, but dryig out, now when take off it stops, and also it is slowing down and loosing around 45 minutes a day. I hope that Rolex does not have that problem. Seems from a historical perspective it has more of a reputation for long lasting reliability. I have several friends who have had Rolex Subs or GMT for over 10-15 years, never serviced, never taken off and they still run great (other than being all dirty and banged up). One thing that perplexes me, maybe it was the shop noise, but could not hear the ticking of the watch in the shop when held to ear. Now can hear the ticking very plain when put up to ear in hotel room. It is natural to be able to hear the ticking sound in a Rolex, correct? Thanks. |

good choice- but 2.5 years is way to short for that kind of bad time.
i always thought omegas were quite reliable?

Yes, you should be able to hear a faint ticking sound when you hold it to you ear.

Another thing I like more about this Rolex than the OMega, the lumination is just right. the OMega was too bright! would blind you at night! The ilum was to bringht and a night with sleepy eyes would cause the hour markers to blur together.
The Rolex is the way to go. |

Last time I was staying at Peninsula, I probably have scared those nice folks at the Dickson AD, I was there like 7 times a day, they probably thought I was going to rob the place until I give them my room number and ask them to get back to me if we want to deal as I got work to do but I spent every moment possible stopping by the shop when I am in the hotel.

Hey, good shopping, but wasn't my new Rolex on your shopping list?
Seriously, I wish I was there to see your purchase/s, I have a vintage no-date sub (5512) and it is a great watch, also have an explorer 1 (1016) which would have to be one of my favorites. If the price is right, why not get another Rolex, enjoy Hong Kong. I love the Penninsula Hotel especially the bar at the top floor. & 73 |
