That's pretty darn nice. I would leave it as is - and get an original bracelet :)

That really is a wonderful catch, I would love to get hold of one of those but sadly I think the prices just keep heading up before I can get the $$$ togehter.

A beautiful watch, yes, and a fascinating dial face.

However, something escapes me, probably having to do with my ignorance regarding the early years of the Explorer II.

It says "Explorer II" on the dial face, and it appears to have a plastic crystal and a Cyclops.

The "II", to me, denotes a 3085 movement, which allows hacking and jump setting of the hour hand.

My previous reading on this subject suggests to me that Rolex developed the 3085 movement in 1977, but didn't put it into a production watch until the 1983 GMT Master II, aka "Fat Lady," which had a sapphire crystal.

Further, my reading suggests that the Explorer did not become the Explorer II until 1986, when Rolex placed the 3085 movement in the Explorer and added a sapphire crystal.

So, I'd like to know more about this watch, the movement in it, the "II", the plastic crystal, and the Cyclops.

=====

Regarding the "scars," or history on this watch: the first time I had my 1986 Fat Lady serviced, I didn't realize they would polish the case.

I grieved the loss of all those honorably earned scars and the history they carried with them.

Ken... Some answers

The explorer II was released in the early 70's It uses the 1575 movement (same as the original GMT). In 86 or so the followed this up with the 16550 using The same movement as the gmt II

this particular watch dates to 74

cheers
