Recommendations for books on Rolex and other automatic watch movements / technology?
Looking to learn more about the parts of a watch, mfg process, the movements etc.
Would love to find a book / movie which instructs, but also shows off watches like Rolex, watches using Toubillions etc. Thanks! ![]() |

Don't know what video's are available but try Breguet or Daniel Roth. I've been to the Roth Factory and it was fascinating. I got to watch them make a case and a tourbillon balance wheel. I'm sure if you google these things something will come up. Rik

Was hoping for some well-known book which goes into the basic parts of a watch movement - escapement, hairspring etc. etc. Perhaps using Rolex and/or Breguet or Patek as examples. |

You might try Watchmaking by George Daniels...... His book is about actually making the watch rather than a watch repair manual....
![]() Once you get how they work down, they all pretty much do the same thing, with each manufacturers own style and configuration.. Automatics are simply watches with a self wind module attached..and the slipping bridle for the mainspring.... but it's all explained... Also look up "Richard Watkins Mechanical watches". It is an annotated bibliography of publications since 1800 until around 2004 and lists over 2,000 books on watchmaking...

Thanks Larry! The watchmaking book sounds like the ticket.
Much appreciated. ![]() |
